We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desiree, how do you think about risk?
I believe that taking risks is such a big step to anything you’d want to pursue in the future because it unlocks a new opportunity(s) for you and you get to learn so much about yourself throughout the journey. it pretty much unlocks growth.
Like if you didnt take the risk, you wouldnt be where youre at today. to me it spices things up cause then im like “damn, what do I do now” which makes me dive into a new topic or experiment of my own.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been writing music since my freshman year of high school, and the reason I finally started recording my songs was that it was my New Year’s resolution for 2024. I’m really proud of everything I’ve accomplished this year—it’s more than I expected. Looking back at where I started and seeing how far I’ve come gives me hope, and I just need to keep being myself.

It hasn’t been easy; I don’t have a complete team yet, so I’ve had to navigate this journey on my own, step by step. There’s always room for improvement, and I’m continually learning to make sure I’m on the right track. I’ve also lost important connections along the way because I had to choose between my world and the outside world, which feels unfair. Some people might try to hold you back from reaching your full potential, and that just feels wrong to me because i support everyone especially in the creative industry.

I love what I do, and it’s not like I excluded anyone from my journey. One lesson I’m learning is that not everyone will keep it real with you. In the end, you see who truly supports you and who doesn’t. I want the world to know that I’m not perfect, and anyone going through tough times isn’t alone. I want my music to help people feel comfortable with the situations I talk about in my lyrics.

I want everyone to realize that this is our life now. We don’t know what happened in our past lives or what the future holds, so today matters. Do what you need to do to get where you want to be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend visited Colorado for a week, I’d show them all the beauty this place has to offer. A lot of locals tend to hate on it, thinking it’s just a party scene, but that’s not the case at all. There are stunning murals to explore, countless hikes, and exciting mountain activities like rafting and ziplining. I love biking in Golden, and Glenwood Springs is one of my favorite spots. They have roller coasters in the mountains, and after a day at the amusement park, you can relax in the hot springs. There’s also the Coors brewery, which offers tours of the brewing process—it looks super fun! I definitely want to check that out, and who knows, I might even make a YouTube video about it!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my family and friends. Without their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today—they’ve been there for me in everything I do. My dad’s side of the family has a strong music background, and I’m proud to carry that legacy forward for both them and myself. It’s incredible for them to see my rapid growth, especially since there wasn’t an internet like we have now. I also want to acknowledge myself—some connections didn’t work out, and that affected me, but I chose this path for myself. I don’t regret it, because if someone truly cares about me, they wouldn’t make me feel bad for pursuing something I love as a hobby.
