Meet Dietra Hudson | CD(DONA), CLC, Birth Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dietra Hudson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dietra, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Being a Birth Doula has a huge impact on both the community and the world. As a Birth Doula, I help people giving birth learn to trust their bodies and the birthing process. I want them to feel empowered and heard as they labor, so that they enter parenthood feeling confident. I believe that when parents trust themselves, they are more likely to have secure emotional attachments with their children. Emotionally secure children thrive and lead positive lives. Creating a better community and world, begins at birth.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I became a Birth Doula in 2016 after the birth of my first child. I saw the lack of continuous, emotional support by someone experienced in labor and birth, and wanted to be that support person for others. Beginning my career was a little bit of a struggle, because my initial intention was to heal my own birth story. Once I healed myself outside of my work, I was able to fully hold space for my clients, and my business blossomed. I learned that I will not always be the right doula for everyone and that is ok. I want my clients to feel a connection to me because I am joining them in a life event they will never forget. As a Birth Doula, I strive to teach my clients to feel confident that labor and birth is a natural process. I help facilitate that trust so my clients can have a fearless birth experience.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Colorado, I would first take them to the mountains (of course)! Colorado has an amazing history that can still be seen today. I love old ghost and mining towns and the energy still present in those areas. As a resident of Morrison, I would also take them to a concert at Red Rocks. No amphitheater beats Red Rocks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to anyone who stands up for what they believe in. Real change can’t happen without you!
