We had the good fortune of connecting with Duane Davis II and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Duane, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a kid I always wanted to have my own business, amongst many other career dreams. The idea for a resume services & career consulting company came to me while working in the adult corrections industry. As part of my last role, I was responsible for the hiring of staff in my department, and this was during the current world pandemic. We were conducting phone interviews, and I noticed that so many people did not know how to properly interview nor provide a relevant resume. I also thought about the many companies that have recruiting departments that “screen” applicants who turn out to be not so great candidates. I wanted to create a business that solved those problems in the modern digital/social media driven world and bring a fresh approach to the industry.

What should our readers know about your business?
I believe that my business is set apart from others because of multiple factors. For one, I tend to relate to my clients better than most recruiters/HR personnel. I have been that applicant searching for jobs ranging from entry-level to senior management/administration. I understand the mindset and emotions that come with the entire job searching process from trying to write a good resume to the nerve-wrecking interview. I have also been a hiring manager and conducted countless interviews. This all allows me to connect with my clients on a personal level and bring them the results they seek. I also believe in leveraging the use of social media. We are living in a digital & social media ruled world that has changed the way business & marketing is conducted, so I incorporate these aspects into my business, which allows me to showcase my business content and my own personality. I want to be open and transparent with anyone I work with so that they feel comfortable with me, and my social media platforms show that. I may have a video giving resume writing tips one second, then post me doing the latest TikTok dance the next, or me reenacting various funny movie scenes. I also host a podcast that covers a range of topics from business to religion to creative arts to social and family issues while also displaying my comedic personality. I have found a way to combine all of these avenues into one marketing strategy to promote my art & my business.

It certainly hasn’t been an easy path so far, and I am still learning through trial and error to this day. There are many times that I want to quit, but I am often reminded that perseverance and consistency bring success. I began using social media heavily to bring awareness to my art & business in 2021. I set out with a plan to release content at least 3 or 4 times per week starting in April of 2021. In the following 9 months, I released video content that amassed an average of 15,000 monthly views. I credit persistence and consistency for that type of growth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot to go would be driving or hiking to the top of Mt. Evans. The views and energy are impeccable! Of course we would have to stop at the Echo Lake Lodge/Restaurant for lunch and some of their amazing apple pie with ice cream. I would also do a guided tour through the mountains that includes a really fun train ride through the mountains and stops in the small gold rush towns. On another day we would go to one of my two favorite pool halls, Zanzibar in downtown Denver or Mirage Sports Bar in Littleton. Both places have great pool tables, a fun and relaxing atmosphere, great drinks, and amazing bar food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have had many influences along my journey in life and career. The most important would be my grandmother, mother, godmother, and best friend. They have all supported me in many of my darkest moments when I wanted to give up. They constantly encouraged me to keep going. Each of them has helped me to see my strength and value as a person, as a man, and as a multi-talented entrepreneur. Often times I am my hardest critic in life & business, and feel as though I haven’t accomplished anything yet, and they are right there to set me straight. lol.
