We had the good fortune of connecting with Dymetra McCaskill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dymetra, how do you think about risk?
The best way to describe how I feel about taking risk is literally happening in real time. I recently made the decision to resign from my 15 year career as a flight attendant from one of the largest airlines in the country. Although I contemplated for several months prior to making my decision, I kept getting this nudge to pursue my career as an interior designer full time. The role taking this risk has played and to be completely transparent, was not easy. Initially, there was some fear involved, mostly because of the unknown; however, not taking the risk was more detrimental. I believe sometimes we can be guided by fear and it’s difficult to leave our comfort zone, but the reward is so amazing and the journey makes it absolutely worth it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The art of interior design can be imitated, but never duplicated. What sets me apart from others is my urban flair, my creative collage of colors, textures and movement. I’m most excited about beginning with a blank canvas, an imaginative thought, then creating something beautiful. The best part is the jaw dropping reaction from my clients, which fills me with so much joy. To experience that with them is so rewarding.

Where I am today has actually been a work in progress for as long as I can remember. When I reflect on my adolescent and young adult years, I’ve always had a fascination with home decor and design. I remember watching my mother rearrange furniture and wishing I could help pick out the finishes for the bathroom remodel. I don’t think I realized it then, but looking back on it, there was a little interior designer brewing. Being a creative is not always easy, because I am my worst critic at times. I am a perfectionist, but I have to remember to extend myself grace and sometimes my best work is a result of the unexpected. What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that no matter where you are in life, you must strike when the iron is hot. I’m 47 years old, beginning a new life and career, kicking down doors and defeating stereotypes. I want the world to know that, your home is your sanctuary and a reflection of who you are. You absolutely deserve to luxuriate, not just in a fine hotel but in the space you call home, every single day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Denver, Colorado and we have the most amazing Mountain View’s. I would start the trip with a visit downtown to a rooftop patio for brunch, afterwards we can stroll through the city and hop on scooter. Later we can catch a live music venue with dancing and great food. The next day we’ll have tea at The Brown Palace and later have some fun at Different Strokes Paint n Sip. To wrap it up, we’ll take a drive up to the historic Red Rocks amphitheater followed by a 2 night stay in Central City’s Monarch Casino Resort Spa. There we will experience delicious food and of course a full day at the spa.
