We had the good fortune of connecting with Ed Oldham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ed, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I have been teaching golf for over 40 years and am passionate about what I do. I still try to learn and improve. I try to learn something every day. I think the passion and the desire to always learn and improve have helped me to become successful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been coaching Jennifer Kupcho since she was in 8th grade. Jennifer won the 2018 NCAA Championship, the 2019 Augusta National Women’s Amateur and was ranked the #1 amateur in the world. She is now competing on the LPGA Tour. She qualified for the 2021 Solheim Cup Team and recently won the Chevron Championship, the first Major of the year on the LPGA Tour.

I certainly didn’t get started thinking that I would be teaching a tour pro. When I started, I was working with beginners and average players and, as I improved, I started working with better players. You learn something from every student. I’m still learning today.

I love helping people. The smiles that I create drive me to continue to do what I do. I’m very fortunate.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite getaway spot is Glenwood Springs. My wife and I go there a couple of time a year. We like to visit the Hot Springs Pool and eat at some of the local restaurants. There is a barbecue restaurant called Smoke. They have a smoked prime rib that is really good.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Rich Skinner was the Head Professional at the club where I grew up in North Platte, Nebraska. Rich asked me to work for him when I was in high school. I loved what he did for a living. He inspired me to pursue golf.

Over the years, I have had many who have had an influence on my teaching and coaching. John Dunigan, who teaches in the Philadelphia area and Tyler Ferrell, who teaches near San Jose, have had an influence on me.
