We had the good fortune of connecting with Ella Deane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ella, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Ever since I was little, I knew that I wanted to be my own boss, so I prepared myself through school to enter into the world of entrepreneurship. Once I fell into the online space and realized it was possible to run a business online, I knew that being able to work from anywhere in the world was perfect for me! Initially, I went into logo and website design but realized that wasn’t right for me. I wanted to use my experience in the world of branding and web design to help other creative entrepreneurs, so in July of 2020, I started offering virtual assistant services to female brand and website designers who worked online. I’ve been loving every second of it and since then, have transitioned into just offering copywriting services for these amazing creative women!
What should our readers know about your business?
Digitella Co is different from other businesses because I blend what I think are two of the most important elements of business – efficiency and personal interest. As the only person running this business, I build relationships with my clients first on a personal level and then work hard through efficient and professional processes that deliver results that resonate with your brand, speak to your ideal client, and help you reach your goals. I love working with fast turnaround times that deliver great results, and that’s exactly what I do when serving each of my clients. In my business, I’m most proud of seeing my efforts pay off and build a business that supports my lifestyle. It hasn’t been easy, I failed a business before starting this one, but that failure set me up for success and helped me start on the right path with Digitella Co. There are definitely days that are harder than others, but I’m so glad that I started my business and am able to work alongside so many amazing business owners around the world. I could go on and on about all the lessons I’ve learned in business, but two simple quotes that help me keep my head on straight are “Don’t take criticism from people you wouldn’t go to for advice”, which I’m pretty sure I found on Pinterest, and “confidence comes from doing something once”, which I heard in a Clubhouse room all about raising your prices. The second bit of advice helps me to remember that whenever I have a daunting goal or idea, I only need to do it once to be confident doing it again. I’ve seen this with adjusting my processes, setting boundaries, filming myself on Instagram Stories, raising my prices, and transitioning from virtual assistance to copywriting.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many places to explore on the Western Slope of Colorado! There are some must-see places that my family brings all our visitors… 1. Black Canyon of the Gunnison and lunch at Colorado Boy! They have the best pizza I’ve ever had the privilege of tasting. 2. Next up would be Ouray and the surrounding areas – Silverton, the ghost town at Las Animas, and exploring the trails hidden in the San Juan mountains. 3. The Colorado National Monument at sunset. In the summer, it’s a bit too hot to spend hours here in the middle of the day, but a drive through the monument with your windows down at sunset is the perfect way to end the day. And you can’t forget some more amazing pizza from Pablos! 4. Silver Jack is another hidden gem that makes for a great day trip in the mountains. I’d finish the day off with some delicious Italian food from Pahgres in Montrose. 5. A trip to Western Colorado isn’t complete without seeing the Crystal Mill, Maroon Bells, or Crested Butte. This day trip would start with donuts from Coloradough and end with even more pizza from the Secret Stash in Crested Butte. 6. The rest of the time would be spent with other friends and family playing games and having a good laugh!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has been my greatest support system as I’ve started and continued working with my online business. Both of my parents have run their own business, and my dad still does. My sister is always supportive and helps me out on the side as well! Whenever I need to think through things out loud, want an opinion from another business owner close to me, or just need to vent, one of them is always there to hear me out or answer my questions. Additionally, my business wouldn’t be possible without all of my amazing clients who also support and cheer me on. Their words of encouragement and seeing the smiles on their faces after we collaborate on something amazing together pushes me forwards to keep producing high-quality work for other amazing business owners.
