We had the good fortune of connecting with Elyssa Desai and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elyssa, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
For me, it’s understanding what my beliefs are and how I can use them to encourage myself to keep on taking the next step. When I say beliefs, I mean the stories we tell ourselves that we believe to be true. We all have them and they dictate how we experience the world and influence our behaviour. They can either be limiting, for example “I’m not worthy of success”, or empowering, for example “I can do anything I set my mind to”. As a Mindset Coach I’m aware of how important having a strong and supportive mindset is, so I’m always looking to uncover my limiting beliefs, process them and the feelings associated with them so I can believe something more positive and empowering. This has been key to my success!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a qualified Mindset Coach and certified Hypnotherapist, on a mission to help individuals who know they want more in life but feel lost and overwhelmed, to understand their mindset blocks and the tools to overcome them, so they can confidently achieve anything.
Working with both the conscious and unconscious mind is where my passion lies and what sets me apart from other coaches. I am absolutely fascinated by how our unconscious mind influences our actions every day, which so many people are not aware of, and I love helping people to understand the link between what they are doing consciously and how their unconscious mind is programmed.
At the beginning of 2019, having just changed careers from HR to Marketing, I found myself in a job I really didn’t like. I felt so overwhelmed, confused and stuck, and I realised I had felt like this for years. Since I had left University, I had worked in a few different jobs and even if in the beginning I enjoyed them, I often felt unfulfilled. I had always wanted a career helping people, and hearing about someone who had a successful coaching business and was younger than me was the proof point I needed that it might be possible for me. After that, there was no stopping me. I signed up to a taster weekend then started my Diploma in Transformational Coaching a couple of weeks later. At that point everything clicked. After years of having this cloud of “what am I doing with my life”, I had found something that felt so right and I was so excited to progress.
I think it can be really easy to look at others and think they have it all figured out but often they don’t. This is something I’m incredibly passionate about and am launching a podcast in August to tell different individuals’ stories to normalise not having it all figured out.
In 2022 I went full time with my Coaching and Hypnotherapy business and it has been a journey with some incredible pinch-me moments, but also some real challenges. Having a strong mindset has been such a key part to the process and has supported me especially when self-doubt or comparison have cropped up.
I really want to encourage people to go after their dreams. Who knows… I may be a proof point for someone else. My biggest reminder to myself throughout it all is to be patient, you are on your own path, don’t worry about what anyone else is doing, just focus on yourself and what steps you can take to get closer to your dream life (even if they are tiny steps to start with!).
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love walking, especially around central London, as there are always so many interesting things to see, so I would definitely recommend walking from place to place to take in the sights. Kew Gardens and Richmond Park are both beautiful. Restaurants I would recommend are Levan in Peckham, Din Tai Fung in Covent Garden, The Marksman in Hackney and Noble Rot in Soho. If you wanted a little rest and relaxation, then the spa at The Connaught in Mayfair and the Bulgari Hotel in Knightsbridge are both lovely. The new Claridge’s spa also looks incredible! Dulwich Picture Gallery, Daunt Books and Ronnie Scott’s are also worth a visit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been so many influential people and experiences along my journey. For me a big shoutout goes to my husband, who has always supported me, believed in me and pushed me to strive for more.
