We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Kittelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, what makes you happy? Why?
Creating makes me happy. I think it almost instinct that humans want to create and express. I am lucky enough to have chosen a career that lets me do both of these all the time as they give me fulfillment.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets my art a part from others is that it is simply my art. Everyone has something unique and special to bring to the table, and everyone has something to express. Between our different skill levels and messages, everyone’s art sets them apart from each other.

I got where I am today but “continuing on the path.” I’m not someone that gives up easily and from the moment I choose art as a career, I knew that it would be a slow journey. The biggest challenge to overcome with being an artist is patience. To keep making your work even when you aren’t selling.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Colorado Springs, one of my favorite spots is Garden of the Gods in Manitou Springs. I love nature and being in it. As someone who is originally from South Florida, the rocky terrain here is something new and exciting for me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I get a lot of my inspiration from reading. There are so many authors I could credit for moving me so much that I want to make art about the feelings that they create. At the base of it, if I had to choose one person, it would be Rick Riordan. I read the Percy Jackson series at a young age and can say it definitely influenced me on my path today.
