We had the good fortune of connecting with Eryk Miya Fisher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eryk Miya, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a creative professional, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to intertwine the art, music, and entertainment industry in my work. Throughout my businesses, we have established a foundation that prides itself on informing, educating, and empowering while simultaneously fostering a stronger sense of community and collaboration throughout Denver, Colorado. I believe we help the community, through event production and live entertainment by producing experiences that enhance and prolong Colorado’s artistic vibrance. This allows for our creativity and influence within a landlocked state, to reach the opposite ends of our nation. Through educating our community, increasing their exposure, and producing opportunities and additional revenue streams, our goal is to have such efficacy in our communal efforts that we have an impact on the world around us.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a self-coined “Creative Liasion” as I have continuously fostered positive relationships throughout my life and now act as a link between people and businesses in order to try to bring about more creativity. I believe my fervor is a result of a life of experience and what sets me apart from others. For context, I was once DOA (dead on arrival) after a horrific head-on collision in 2013, then a year later served in the United States Army and by 2018, arrived in Colorado to find my true calling within the art, music, and entertainment industry. Through these experiences, I have had the luxury to meet some of the most creative and inspiring individuals, that have helped mold the individual I am today. Since then, I’d confidently say that I am most proud of the early events that took place as those truly shaped my career. Events like the 2020 Black Love Mural Festival, which we created in the heart of Civic Center Park that captured the artistic expression of 30+ Black artists while in a global pandemic, or The Knock 303, which is a live hip-hop event series that highlights and uplifts local artists and other creatives.
Each moment piqued a new interest, and I am now more than excited to present the City Boy Country Club (@cityboycountryclub). Alongside friends/business partners, Kevan and KC is a brand that we have created that encompasses all of the hard work, knowledge, and expertise we have garnered thus far in our lives. We’re a newfound entertainment platform that is currently a radio show, hosted on The Talk of Colorado (98.1 FM) every Monday evening 6-7pm as well as a podcast on all streaming platforms, with additional content on all social media platforms. We have created another space that offers information, education, opportunity, exposure, and empowerment placing us one step further in our devised plan to expand beyond the state lines of Colorado which will ultimately increase the creative spotlight on our city/state. The City Boy Country Club in 2023 is already set to do philanthropic work and community building and music-business conferences, in addition to many more interactive experiences that will increase our overall impact throughout the city.
In closing, I believe the biggest lesson I learned along the way is that, although you must have self-discipline and determination, you’re still going to need help, so surround yourself with quality people. I believe I have taken heed to this message more since I joined parenthood, as it takes a village to raise a family. To that, I would argue that it also takes a village to build and sustain a business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friends JT, Thomas, and Ryan from Florida were in town, I’d have to preface this with, we’re all fond of four things – sports, food, beer, and cannabis, and Colorado is the mecca for some of our favorite pastimes. Our first stop would have to be at a local dispensary, and one of my favorites is Leiffa in Lakewood, Colorado. One of the greatest and safest places to consume and catch a vibe would be the amazing Tetra Lounge, the one and only cannabis hospitality lounge in Denver. Although there are many phenomenal food stops, I’d definitely start with Saucy’s Southern BBQ to go see my good people and owners, Khristian and Kierre, but I would also include Denver Biscuit Company, Dave’s Hot Chicken, Snooze Eatery, and Redeemer Pizza. It would be a failed Denver trip if you didn’t go get an assortment of exotic snacks and beverages from It’s A Bodega, a local snack shop that offers a worldly-tasting experience! As for the beer festivities, we would have to do some traveling throughout the state to reach places like WeldWerks Brewing Company and Wiley Roots Brewing but can enjoy Denver local breweries like Lady Justice Brewing. While we’re doing all the driving, it’s necessary to take them to Red Rocks and experience the beautiful views, hikes, and other natural phenomena that happen in the mountains.
By nature, as we’re walking around enjoying the city, I’d be sure to take them up and through alleys to showcase all the amazing art throughout the city. Artists like Chris Haven, RubeZilla, Casey Kawaguchi, Chelsea Lewinski, Patrick McGregor, Hiero, and so many others have brought so much color to our city streets, it’s only right that we pay homage to those that provide such creative inspiration. In addition to celebrating creatives, there are so many phenomenal bars that offer music played by DJs — and personally speaking our DJs do so much for our city. Specifically, DJ Squizzy Taylor, DJ Hex Kitten, DJ Polyphoni, DJ Simone Says, or DJ Destiny Shynelle, each and every one of these vibe curators is guaranteed to make your night better!
Colorado is also home to multiple professional sports teams, so whatever is in season, we’ll have to catch a game and experience the fandom of Colorado, whether it’s the Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies, or the Avalanche.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All the sacrifices that I continue to make are in an attempt to create a better life for my kids, so I feel it’s only right that I shout out my beautiful children Jaxson and Phoenix. Professionally speaking, my good friends and business partners of the City Boy Country Club – Kevan Reece and KC Christian. These two gentlemen are the epitome of hardworking, accountable, and creative, and it’s an inspiration to converse with them two, every single day, growing and learning in business and in life.
