We had the good fortune of connecting with Eryn and John Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eryn and John, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It came about very organically really. My husband had been reviewing haunted attractions in Colorado for roughly 10 years before he and I met. He used to send his “Famous Top Haunts List” as a text message to all his friends. When we started going to the haunts together I told him he should put his list on the internet. He asked me how would that work and I said, maybe we could put it on Facebook. So that’s what we did. And Facebook posts turned into Instagram posts which eventually morphed into a Youtube channel and a blog. We really didn’t expect anything to come of our top haunts list but, people really reacted to it and we started getting questions about all the different haunted houses we visited. That’s when we began to realize we might have an opportunity to be a leading resource for people searching for creepy fun things to do during Spooky SZN.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
This is difficult for me to answer because what we do is so unique. We both still have regular full time jobs and we run our review business just 6 weeks out of the year. I think that is the most difficult part, we only have 6 weeks to visit and review as many attractions as possible. Typically in a season we will review anywhere from 15-25 attractions depending on how many are open for the year and whether or not we decide to go out of state. I think one of our biggest take aways over the last couple of years is just learning how to manage our time wisely and becoming more familiar with all the different platforms available for us to share our love of Halloween and Haunted attractions with others. There is still so much to learn and we have so many big goals.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If we had friends come in from out of town during haunt season we would 100% take them down to Colorado Springs. Some of the most fun and intense haunted experiences are at Hellscream Haunted House and their sister attraction, Fear Complex. These are the top haunts that really showcase why we love haunting! Next we’d head back into Denver and take a Ghost tour of the city and then stop at the Molly Brown House museum to hear some Victorian Horror Stories. Continuing right along we’d head North to Erie Colorado to see Anderson Farms. They have so many fun Fall festival activities and the haunted attraction Terror in the Corn has really become a haunt star in the last couple of years.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to thank our family and friends, those first few people who read our reviews, subscribed to our channel and encouraged us to have fun with our adventure and just keep going.
