We had the good fortune of connecting with Fly Navarro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fly, what is the most important factor behind your success?
being 100% authentic, I have 1 goal every morning and that is to introduce the sport of fishing to the world. I need to show the beauty of our sport to at least one new person every day. Show my enthusiasm and passion for the sport, which is very contagious and give people the access needed to enjoy what mother nature has to offer.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
32 years ago I started as a professional fisherman, a deckhand on a sport-fishing boat chasing marlin thru out Central and south America. Being bilingual in both english and spanish it helped propel my career thru Latin America in some of the greatest fishing destinations. After a 2 year opportunity captaining my own boat in Kona, Hawaii I moved back to Florida. Being 40 years old and not sure of what I wanted to do, I freelanced around and shared my journey on social media. Before I knew it I was fishing over 300 days a year. I realized that social media was a tool to promote people, locations and events. I needed more content so I created my first fishing tournament and launched my social media marketing and promotion company. We now help governments, boards of tourism and many locations to promote their local tourism thru the sport of fishing. I have spoken at the University of China on the importance fishing and outdoor sports in the promotion of tourism. We helped the kingdom of Saudi Arabia host there 1st ever international fishing event in the history of there country.
https://youtu.be/cogUtcYFvbM We are now responsible for hosting tournament around the globe. We have also branched off into other business endeavors that help get new people fishing across many different platforms.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This all depends on what city or country you are in??? The Ramen houses in Tokyo, the Coliseum in Rome, the gin clear waters of the Red Sea off of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia or the awesome nightlife of San Juan, PR. All places that are teaming with great fishing!!!!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The fishing community is a fraternity, a brotherhood and sisterhood of people that love to be outdoors. The people I come across every day help motivate me to reach new people. My mentor Jim Lambert taught me that there is not anything in this world that can’t be accomplished if you give 100% to your goal. He showed me that the only thing constant in life is change. You can lead with change and be on the fore front or you can follow change and be at the back of the pack.
