We had the good fortune of connecting with Forty Two Judges and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Forty Two Judges, how do you think about risk?
Risks have always been very hard for me to take but I can name a few that have had a major role in shaping my life and career. The main risk I reference back to is when I quit my reliable, respectable job of a teacher to become a tattoo artist. I had planned my life around being an art teacher and had completed a Master’s degree in teaching, but it just didn’t quite scratch that creative itch. I was terrified to quit teaching and delve into tattooing, but I am so glad that I did. I would not be nearly as happy and fulfilled now, had I not taken that major risk.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a tattoo artist that specializes in dusky frondescence and arcane blackwork, with occasional selective colorwork. People come to me for detailed tattoos of flora and fauna, birds, and occult imagery. I make an effort to show my tattoos on all body types, genders, skin types and tones to make my work as inclusive as possible.

It took me a while to find my way to tattooing. For a long time I thought I would end up a graphic artist or art teacher, and I tried many different art mediums including drawing, painting, 3D work, and ceramics. To me, becoming a tattoo artist was the most risky decision and went against the advice of many people that I did consider mentors and friends. I was terrified that I was making the wrong decision, but stayed true to what I felt that I was meant do and I am so happy that I did.

The next step in my career that I am most excited about is the upcoming opening of my private studio in my hometown of Colorado Springs. It has always been a dream of mine to work totally independently and curate my own creative space.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them on a short hike through Garden of the Gods and we would take a drive up to the summit of Pikes Peak to eat the delicious, greasy donuts. I love a good fancy breakfast and Bloody Mary at Urban Egg, and a quick burrito lunch at La Casita. On a quiet afternoon, we could grab a coffee at the Wild Goose and browse Poor Richards Bookstore across the street. I also love an early morning hike through Red Rock Canyon Open space, followed by a bite to eat at Garden of the Gods cafe!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There have been a lot of people that have encouraged, mentored, and guided me and I am eternally grateful for all the helping hands. My main shoutout goes to my partner and husband who never doubted my dream of becoming a tattoo artist and has supported me every step of the way.
