We had the good fortune of connecting with Violence in Violet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Violence in Violet, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Mike, Enrique, Brenden, and Ozzie were working at Guitar Center and their friend was in a local band in Colorado Springs and felt inspired to start their own band. They met their drummer, Brandon, through Guitar Center as well, and the band started organically. It started out as a side project and it was an exciting prospect for the musicians who always dreamed of playing music. After their first show at Sunshine Studios, they sold out of all of their merchandise and realized that there was big potential there.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We’re most proud of the fact that we’re actually putting ourselves out there instead of just staying in our comfort zones. We really want to show people our music and get up on the stage. One of the most difficult things was finding the right people to be a part of the band. We changed our lineup pretty early on and that was a big hurdle that we had to overcome. It was also really hard to stand out amongst so many local bands but still be unique enough to hold our ground. We had to find a sound that brings people together but is still different enough to set us apart. We also put a lot of effort into bringing energy to the stage and putting on a great show. Something that worked out as a great surprise was that we write together pretty effortlessly. The fact that we’re all great friends is awesome because it makes spending time together and working on our art enjoyable.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely the Black Sheep because it’s always a great time and you get exposed to really great local music. We would also take them to Archives, Mother Muff’s, and Garden of the Gods is always a must. We’d have to spend a day in Manitou and visiting Cave of the Winds. And we’d have to do another music night visiting places like Vultures and Legends to see other local music. It’s always fun to go to bars and restaurants downtown, and you can’t miss a relaxed night at Antique’s to shoot pool and have some drinks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Lavagato, for sure. Once we saw Lavagato perform we knew we wanted to share the stage with them. Seeing our peers perform and be so successful at what they do definitely inspired us to get out there.
