We had the good fortune of connecting with Freebird Astro-Naughty Adam P. Beckett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Freebird Astro-Naughty, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I did not necessarily be artistic or create art for anything besides pleasure for many years. I was always building, learning, crafting, creating, making various art; but I was doing it just for enjoyment. Art in general has always captivated me throughout life, but it was never something that I thought I could do as a career. Over the last year or so, I have been in attack mode at learning the in’s and out’s of the music game. There is a major learning curve, and seemingly endless equipment options when stepping to the plate, so it really took some tinkering to get an effective system down. Now that we went through all of that, doors are just blowing open, and it does seem as if a creative career is something that could actually be possible.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always kept extremely high respect for music in general, and I never considered myself worthy to be a musician. After I moved past that, jumping into the music world seemed a bit terrifying at first. So you want to be a musician, but where do you start all on your own without counsel? You just kind of have to dive in and start anywhere. That’s exactly what I did and it was not pretty, to be honest. I thought I was supposed to be a DJ, so I was focusing my attention on that. After it had my attention it gave me an understanding that I do not want to be a DJ. It was fun learning how to manipulate sounds, but I wanted to be the music maker, not the latter, so I moved past it.

I did not ever think I was going to be singing, rapping, or producing studio-quality music at will, but I stepped right into that after a local producer helped pull it out of me and show me my potential. After I learned my capabilities with writing songs and busting up microphones, I ran full speed at it, and here we are.

I like all music, so I did not want to be barred by genre confines, so I believe what makes me different from other artists is the fact that I can do it all. I can sing country, rock, punk, and pop; but I can also write my songs in any genre, produce music of any style, and rap to connect with humans and lift them in some type of way.

Bentley Records saw something in me and I was just signed to a year deal with them which is special to me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Just stepping out into the Denver area on any given day already makes for the best day ever. There is a charm to it, but there is also endless beauty to embrace, and great people. The art scene in Denver is truly next level and one could spend a whole week simply admiring art. The diversity that surrounds the area is thick, so, a week-long trip would be different adventures on different days.

There is no doubt that the week would include lots of exploring nature. My homies and I could be considered nerds, but we would be hitting up the geode hotspots and chasing waterfall hikes. There are endless options, so determining logistics would be the hard part. The Rocky Mountain National Arsenal would probably be a good starting point. A Loveland or Keystone ski day would also be in the works.

Hopefully, visitors would come around the first Friday time, so that the people with me could experience the vibrance of the Santa Fe Art Scene. Grabbing some scooters and exploring the urban terrain would certainly be time-consuming as we ventured into the area. Denver is really amazing and overall pretty safe, so just spending time unaccounted time experiencing the city is something to speak about. We would not miss excursions around 16th Street Mall or Broadway.

Denver is alive, it has a pulse. Sometimes I wish I would have come here sooner in life. I know that we would be hitting up whatever Red Rock’s shows were popping indubitably.

Since Pho is the hot item around town, we would be trying to find the best available and the %100 sustainable/organic marijuana shop, L’eagle, on Quivas would be getting some heavy attention as well

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a constant outpouring of gratitude for Divinity as a whole, so I will start by giving a shoutout to God and the Angels. It took a little while for my family to see the potential of my music endeavors, but now that we are here, they are being very supportive and encouraging and it is wonderful. Furthermore, I would like to thank the mighty and brave, Ally Harmon, for being a positive impact on my life during my time in Colorado. She has helped to give me confidence and find strength in weak places. I attribute much of my success as an artist to being near her.
