We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabby Jockers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabby, what role has risk played in your life or career?
For an entrepreneur, I’m definitely more risk-averse than you might expect. Though quitting my full time job to start a photography business from scratch might sound risky, I had a very safe cushion of my partner’s income to keep us safely afloat while I started up my business. I’m so grateful to have had that privilege, especially since it took me over a year to even make money!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I experienced a roundabout journey to get to boudoir photography that required lots of time teasing out my core values and “why” in life. Unlike some artists or entrepreneurs, I didn’t have a lifelong dream to be a photography business owner. Finding my calling took a lot of deliberate effort of discovering what I stand for, the impact I want to have, and my creative expression. But it also took trial & error! Boudoir is the third photography specialization I’ve tried. I had to try out different styles to find the right one. It was the strongest fit to my core values in life, which includes empowering women!
And that’s a big lesson I’ve learned in my business. There’s always going to be someone out there with the “best” solution or strategy or tactic. There is no best and we just need to try different things out until you find the best one for your business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Lunch at Tacos Tequila Whisky
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to the person who has my back & goes through all the highs & lows with me on this wild journey of being a creative entrepreneur – my best friend since forever ago Melissa Smith. Having Melissa as an accountabilibuddy and someone to talk through challenges and brainstorms together has been absolutely vital to me getting where I am today, and where I’ll go in the future. Her business is also all about empowering women too! @intuitive.eating.mindset
