We had the good fortune of connecting with Genaro Barron and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Genaro, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I think the idea originally started coming to life around the pandemic. Like a lot of other people, I came to the realization that work or a 9 to 5 removed us from our family and time to create. We noticed there was a possibility to make your own schedule or work from home. I think I had a lot of time during the pandemic to think about what I wanted and did not want to do for income. So the idea of a podcast and a clothing line started to get thrown around with a brother of mine. I wanted to have a platform to inspire and motivate people of color. Make something that was authentically for us by us, something we could be proud of.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The podcast/clothing line is something that people of color can be proud of and that can motivate them. I feel like its genuine and from the heart thats why people can relate to it. It makes me proud to see people support the brand, or hear them relate to stories that are shared. The proccess has been long and difficult at times with plenty of obstacles but I learned that as an entrepreneur you are basically a proffesional problem solver. One problem arises and you have to find a solution for it, its that over and over. I want the world to know that there is talented people of color in our neighborhoods that deserve an opportunity to showcase their skills and talents and be properly represented and even more so respected.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado’s top feature to me has to be its nature. Its mountains and rivers are some of the best in the world. So a good hike, if it’s winter Skiing or snowboarding. Any hot spring as well is a good way to experience some of the state’s beauty. Colorado also has a lot of music venues, I would say a show at Red Rocks is a must. For food, I would say a Mexican restaurant, my favorite is Mariscos Sinaloa in Commerce City off of Locus St. their seafood is some of the best I’ve ever had and their drinks are amazing as well. For a drink or to hang out I would say downtown the bars and clubs are great, Status Ultra Lounge of Blake St is great for nightlife.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everyone, I believe we are community made not self-made. Anyone who has watched an episode, shared it with a friend, or bought merchandise, even if they didn’t purchase anything but mention your product to someone, that kind of support is just as important as the monetary one. Everyone you come across plays a role in your success whether it’s recommending your product, or the silent purchases or props I never hear about. Family, friends, and my community always motivate me, and they are the reason I put in the effort so all of them deserve credit and recognition for anything I have accomplished.
