We had the good fortune of connecting with Gina Kuttrus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had been working with therapeutic riding centers and rescues for many years. I also have a daughter with significant special needs. My goal was/is to give her a purposeful life and help as many horses as we can along the way. I also think educating people along the way is very important. Many people do not know what is happening to our mustangs. And horse wellness is actually very complicated so my hope is that people will learn through what I’m doing abs follow suit.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As an equine nonprofit there are many challenges. Horses are expensive and require a lot of work. We pride ourselves on the fact that we take the time it takes for each mustang to figure out who they are in domestic life. Horses are sentient beings and are affected by everything going on around them. We make sure all that happens here reflects our mission of letting them start their new life surrounded by love and acceptance. Our deeper goal is to educate as many humans as possible about what is happening to these American icons.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our rescue is located in Kiowa, CO. But our horses are from Sand Wash Basin. If people were to come visit we would take them to see the horses wild. It’s also a beautiful drive through Silverthorne, Kremmling, Steamboat, Hayden, Craig and Maybell to get to the entrance of the 160,000 acre HMA (herd management area).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Sharon Tiraschi with Kindred Spirit Equine, Anna Twinney with Reach Out to Horses, jacqui Avis with Drifter’s Hearts of Hope, Teri Allen with Terolyn Horse Rescue, Jessica Roberts with Harmonized Horsemanship, Jessica Dabkowski with Wild Idea Horsemanship
