Meet Hamilton Pevec | Myco Ambasador – Entrprenuer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hamilton Pevec and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hamilton, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to combine my two passions, Mycology and Filmmaking. I was already working as a consultant for some of the largest mushroom extract brands on the planet and decided to launch my own DTC brand that would finance my filmmaking. There was a quality shaped hole in the market and i intended to fill it. Five years later we are cruising and my organic mushroom extracts support mycological efforts all around the world: mushroom clubs, mushroom festivals, scholarships, even science.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Filmmaking and story telling has always been the most satisfying creative medium for me for most of my life. with Hamiltons Mushrooms i have fulfilled a dream: i get to pay myself to make movies about mushrooms, meet amazing people, travel the world, and tell incredible stories. i don’t have to answer to anyone else in the creative process, i get to make my movies the way i want to make them. total creative control. its a great feeling after making other people movies for so long.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
when they arrive i would take them to the local natural hot springs first to relax in the epic beauty of our valley and unwind from their travel. then we would eat an amazing home cooked Nepali meal featuring shiitake mushrooms. first full day out would for sure going for a mushroom hunt, then spending the afternoon processing our foraged mushrooms. second full day out would be picking a spot to camp and spending a few days sleeping under the stars, cooking on the fire and wandering around the mixed aspen and evergreen forests looking for treasure. on our return we would hit the hot springs again for deep relaxing and treating the sore muscles. then another epic meal together before they had to leave.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Devika Gurung didn’t worry at all when I told her that I was going to quit my job and start a company. She has been my major supporter on the emotional home front. On the business front my brother Lucien Pevec helped me out in the beginning by developing the back end of the business with website, amazon quickbooks etc…now he is my partner and I cant imagine this journey without him.
