Meet Hanna Stump | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hanna Stump and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hanna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I first started doing photography, it was mainly for fun. I used it to fill a creative void that I had in my life. When I decided to make the jump to get my LLC and become a legitimate business, I was terrified! I wasn’t making very much money from photography, but I knew that I wanted to. I had fallen in love with capturing people’s stories and I wanted to continue to do so. Although I was scared and didn’t know if I would be successful, I dove head first. I invested in my business, equipment, and myself. It was the best decision I could have made for myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My photography captures the warm, bold, and romantic spirit of my clients. I strive to capture authentic, intimate, and easy to miss moments. Every time someone receives their gallery and falls in love with their images, I feel so incredibly proud. Getting to where I am professionally was definitely not easy. I relied heavily on the support from other photographers, my mentors, and my family to continue going and learning from my mistakes. There are so many wonderful photographers in my area, which does make it difficult to stand out. I have found that being authentically me has helped me find the most amazing clientele. The biggest lesson I have learned along the way is that there is no “right” way to do things. Thinking outside the box, trying something new, and listening to my own gut instinct has gotten me so much farther than I could have imagined.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit me in Colorado Springs, I would have us start the day with breakfast at Snooze with one of their massive breakfast burritos! Then, we would spend the afternoon in Manitou at the Penny Arcade, because who doesn’t want to play old arcade games all day!? After, I would show her some of my favorite spots at Garden of the Gods. You cannot beat that view. For dinner, I would take her my favorite place, Ivywild, for some Decent Pizza and good drinks. If we felt up to it after, we would go downtown to Allusion Speakeasy and enjoy some fun cocktails. Currently, Stranger Things themed (like HOW COOL IS THAT!?). Aside from our first day here are some other places I would love to take her: The Manitou Incline, driving up Pikes Peak, Top Golf, and Red Rock Open Space. To eat, the places on my list would be: The Public House at the Alexander, The Rabbit Hole, Lumen8, Dozo Sushi, 1231 Craft Kitchen (at FH Beerworks), and Tepex food truck. A cool place I would HAVE to take her is Homa Cafe + Bar for amazing oat milk lattes on tap, great food, and the cutest atmosphere.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, Chase. Ever since I first picked up my camera, he has been there cheering me on. He has encouraged me to fully go for it and never shy away from an opportunity. Without his support and motivation, my business would not be where it is today.
