We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Alexandar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks can be extremely daunting and even frightening, but also quite rewarding. Starting my business in itself was a risk. However, it was a ledge that I am grateful I jumped off.
When I first started my business, I started out as a private yoga teacher in Denver, a city with a plethora of yoga teachers, I knew that I had to find my niche quickly. I’ve always loved astrology, and in my studies of astrology and yoga, I found that each zodiac sign relates to a certain part of the body and can affect how we move. So I began teaching classes for each New Moon and Full Moon every month.
It was a risk, because at the time, I was a fairly new teacher building up my student base. However, I trusted that quote from the movie, A Field of Dreams, “If you build it, they will come.” So I did! I worked hard every single day building my website, adding potential students to my email list, formulating the next yoga sequence, etc. But yoga and astrology weren’t my only passions, I slowly integrated Holistic Wellness and Crystal Reiki Master Teacher into my field of expertise. However, again, in Denver, with Naropa in Boulder just 45 mins away, how could I really set myself apart?
After helping dozens of clients find more vitality through holistic wellness, I still felt like something was missing. Holistic wellness is an excellent journey to be on to be sure, but I noticed that my clients weren’t fully tapping into their own unique + divine gifts. Insert the next big risk here: Cosmic Wellness.
I created Cosmic Wellness. This is where holistic wellness meets astrology. It’s a program that not only utilizes your own individual astrology chart, but also incorporates yogic principles to help clients reach their highest potential. It really is the union of yogic philosophy, astrology, and wellness practices to support the journey to your highest self.
I feel like had I not taken that initial risk of following my dreams of becoming a yoga teacher, then the next steps of being an astrologer, holistic wellness practitioner, crystal reiki master teacher, etc would not have happened. What most people don’t realize is that the journey to our highest self isn’t always the easiest. It’s filled with challenges to overcome, shadow aspects of ourselves, and the need to fully understand and build up our weaknesses so that our strengths can shine through with all the more vitality and passion. Because of this, in my program, my clients have the 1:1 support they need to fully realize their potential.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What really sets me and my business apart from the crowd is that in working with me, you have access to someone who genuinely cares about your long term wellbeing and wants to see you thrive and will continue supporting you even through the challenging times – because that’s when we need it the most.
My events and programs are designed to create community, to bring people together to share in the upleveling of our lives. This was certainly not an easy task especially since my business started back in 2019, I really only had a year of in person availability to make and form lasting relationships before the pandemic hit and everything shut down. However, the tenacity of a Cancer Sun will never give up! Even through the days of lockdowns and social distancing, I still held live virtual events to help give our community a semblance of the comradarie we once shared in person.
Overcoming these challenges was not always easy, but stepping through that veil of fear, worry, and doubt and fully trusting in myself and that Spirit would lead the way, was the biggest lesson.
Fast forward to today, I now host monthly in person Zodiac themed parties where I get to share all about the incoming astrology insight for the season, meditation, crystal reiki, yoga, and at the end there is always an afterparty where guests can hang out, enjoy refreshments and get to know their fellow community members!
I’ve known from a very young age that this was my soul’s purpose. To hold space for the community to realize their greatest potential and to support their journey. You deserve to feel seen and heard on a deep emotional level that often gets overlooked in today’s fast paced, rigid society. Cosmic Soulchemy is holding space for you and the collective shift.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is such a fun question!
Day One. We’re gonna ease into the festivities of this weeklong vacation. I would start us with brekke and wake-up beverages at The Corner Beet. Personally, I’m a huge fan of their Vital Verde Super Food Latte with a fresh-pressed juice to go! They also have some of the yummiest menu items around. Then we’d hit up one of Denver’s many parks for some fresh air and sunshine yoga in the grass. A trip to Tacos Tequila Whiskey is a must for some of their award-winning tacos for a yummy meal.
Day Two. Early wake-up call & drive out to Boulder for a sunrise hike. Because the folks who would visit me are from the south, we would absolutely hit up Lucile’s Creole Cafe after our hike to fill our bellies with creole delectables and of course a bloody mary! After all the excitement we would end the day with stargazing with the Denver Astronomical Society.
Day Three. Since we’re on a wake-up early streak, we would venture to Red Rocks Amphitheater to watch the sunrise, climb the stairs or catch a yoga class. Whichever comes first. A quick lunch date at The Fort before then heading down to Chatfield State Park for some well-deserved paddleboarding and relaxation on the water. If we’re up for it in the evening, we would check out 16th street or Tennyson nightlife.
Day Four would take us down to Manitou Springs and Garden of the Gods for more hiking and tourist adventures. For eats, I’d take them to Crystal Park Cantina or Savelli’s. Because you really can’t go wrong with Mexican food or a good pizza. Might have to get the one we didn’t choose for dinner’s take-out!
Day Five. This is technically their last day on this trip, so I want them to feel relaxed and refreshed for their trip home, and not completely exhausted. On day five, I would take them for a chill late morning stroll through the Denver Botanical Gardens, or even Fairmont Cemetery’s Centennial Rose Garden. Fairmount Cemetery is home to one of the largest known collections of “Old Garden Roses” in North America. I live near this cemetery and its history has always intrigued me. For eats, we would check out Happy Camper for lunch to enjoy their outdoor patio, and then for our last evening adventure, we’re going to Nocturne for a classy cocktail and some smooth jazz.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a Gemini rising, I gather inspiration, motivation, and support from several different avenues. So I have a few folks to shout to here! Firstly, I am grateful to the ever-growing yoga community at Rooted Heart Yoga + Wellness for their excitement and support around my events and workshops. To my Pisces astrology mentor Natalie Walstein at Soulshine Astrology, and her five planets in Capricorn for her continual support and encouragement to follow my dreams and to create the life I desire. To my friend Katelyn Kay, a Virgo woman, who, like me, is a multitalented, multifaceted spark of inspiration holding space for the collective shift. And Lastly, my Taurean husband, for his patience, strength, and support when I feel like things get a little overwhelming.
