We had the good fortune of connecting with Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Holland, is there something you believe many others might not?
There is no one “right” way to think, act, or be. There is so much power in knowing yourself, and nobody knows you better than YOU! You know your habits and tendencies better than anyone, and if you can strategize your life around them, then you can set yourself up for success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started Holland Haus Art in August 2019 beginning with painting and poetry, and have added ink art, photography, entomology, and soap along the way. I believe in a holistic and minimal approach to life, from what we look at, to what touches us emotionally and physically. My goal is to create timeless and fun pieces that inspire a sense of whimsy in your life and home.

Art
Classically trained in art from the age of 13, I’ve always had a panache for the surreal. Inspired by Magritte and Matisse, I like to challenge the viewer to see things from a different perspective. Ink art however has become my primary passion, and I love finding the balance of the “perfectly imperfect”. All of my ink art is done freehand, making it truly one of a kind. I have recently added entomology art to my collection, and it’s giving me all the butterflies!

Poetry
Specializing in the raw, my first book, ‘The Pain, the Pleasure, and Everything In Between’ follows my journey of growth since childhood to now. Words have always come easier in writing than in speaking, and I’m beyond excited to share with you my inner dialog, and the pivotal moments that have made me who I am. Not only writing, but reading poetry was a large part of my healing process, and I hope that my words may potentially aid someone in their growth journey.

Soap
Super random right?! How does an artist get into botanical soap anyways? It began like most things in my life, passion! I began Naked Lady Soap, artisan botanical soap, in January 2020 after being thoroughly disappointed by the ingredients used in adorably shaped soaps. I have always been drawn to fun shaped soaps, but am horrified every time I read the ingredients, which generally include: parabens, sulfates, harsh chemicals, and artificial colors/fragrances. All of which are dangerous to our health and skin! Sure, there are all natural soaps, and there are shaped soaps, but not one soap that is both. I knew I could do better, especially with my past career as a medical esthetician, and my knowledge of skin health; thus Naked Lady Soap was conceived.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Locally owned everything! Coffee shops, bookstores, rock stores, GF and Vegan joints. Hiking! Spending some quality time with a few of the kindest souls I know. Definitely a living room jam session, or four. sharing some of our favorite poetry. Helping each other heal as we process heavier aspects of life. Sad crying. Happy crying. So much hugging. Maybe a photoshoot? And plenty of basking in the sun while taking hammock naps.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are truthfully too many people to name, so I’ll thank the fellow soul searchers, healers, and lovers. You have helped to make this life experience a beautiful one, I’m blessed to share time and space with you.
