We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaac Carpenter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isaac, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I sort of have to divide this into two parts….the art and my music. As far as music goes, I started DJing in summer of 2000. It was just motivated by an interest in music and wanting to be involved as more than just a listener. So I took any gig I could get. I did that very actively until 2008. During the pandemic, I started making my own music. It’s going pretty well. I play music for yoga classes, Kava Bars and have done a couple festivals.
My visual art was just a hobby until I accidentally sold two small pieces to a friend for $25. I bought some groceries and some more canvases and thought that maybe this could turn into something. So I kept pushing it as hard as I could. I think I would be hard to focus on any other type of business besides music or art. I have lots of other entrepreneurial ideas, but I keep up with the art and music.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make songs that go with paintings. I typically start with a painting and make a song to match the same mood. Most share the same name. For example “Wackadoodle” is my most popular song and it has a painting to go with it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d probably go with a concert at Red Rocks, and a tour of the Kava bars and art galleries.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents deserve a lot of credit for my art and music. My mom is a talented calligrapher and plays piano. She taught me the basics of music at a young age, so when I came back to it in high-school it came pretty easily.
My dad taught me a lot about woodworking and that also plays a role in my art. Especially with the wood cut outs.
