We had the good fortune of connecting with Jae Jarratt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jae, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Consistency. I am constantly staying active learning photography. This is what I love doing. Whenever I have free time, I’m studying, shooting, or learning new techniques in photography or editing.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently I’m a stay at home dad, and aspiring professional landscape photographer. My wife and I welcomed our first child into the world 7 months ago. Having the ability to stay home and raise you’re child is such a blessing, and it’s extremely rewarding. When I have spare time, I’m slowly growing my photography business. I’m getting close to finishing my website, as well as having lots of photography opportunities present themselves as I continue moving forward with this. I’m going to be running photography workshops at Garden Of The Gods beginning in a few weeks, which is very exciting. The harder I’ve worked at this, the more doors I’ve had open as a result. I’m a huge believer in “you can do or be anything you want in life, as long as you put the time in.”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place I take all visitors is Garden Of The Gods. It’s my favorite public park on earth. I usually follow that up with a trip to Dos Santos Tacos in downtown Colorado Springs. If we are exploring more of my favorite areas in CO, I’d definitely be trying to make going to Red Rocks for a concert a priority. If they are into the outdoors, I’m 100% taking them to Crested Butte, and the San Juans. Those areas are without question the most beautiful places in CO.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my wife. When I decided to dive into the photography world, it all started with a conversation we had. She asked me “If you could do anything, what would it be?” I told her about wanting to learn photography, and become a professional photographer. From that conversation she basically told me to manifest this into existence. From that point on, I’ve had her full support. I also want to give a HUGE shoutout to all of the photographers I’ve met along the way who have helped me so much. I’ve also developed some great friendships with these individuals as well:
Jonathan Nicholas, Daniel Forster, Lars Leber, Jamie Rodgers, Peter Schwepker, Candayce Abney, and Jason Fazio are all fantastic photographers in thier own right. They have all taken the time to answer questions, shoot, and inspire me to really pursue my dream. I am so grateful to all of these people.
