We had the good fortune of connecting with James Kinsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I have two favorite quotes which I live by the first being Mark Twain”s
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.”
And the second is “Risk or Rust”. Both have had significance impact on my thought process and each quote says the same thing in a round about way.
What I love about life is this… If you don’t take risks you’ll rust away on the dock.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m know as an award winning videographer and have owned my own production company now for 23 years. I think what separates my work from the rest is my story telling abilities. I am a writer, cinematographer, musician and editor. By being able to create my own soundtrack really helps my work stand out against others.
Getting to where I am today professionally was difficult. I took many chances from the bush of Tanzania to the arctic ocean and beyond. I always put myself in harms way to get the shot needed and the end results were paramount to my career being successful.
It’s a grind every day.Trying to juggle it all. With Advanture Hunter ,and the other shows I have produced, keeping the sponsors happy is always a challenge. Branding their products inside a half hour series has to be done in a tactful way otherwise you loose your audience and your series will fail.
What I want the world to know is this… Filming, editing, writing and songwriting is a niche I have developed and I feel that by being able to combine those four things my end product is one of a kind.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I like small towns and wide open places. Believe it or not the town of Limon Colorado is one of my favorite places. The combination of the wide open prairie and huge wind turbines just on the outskirts of town are cool to drive out and look at. The amount of mule deer, coyotes and antelope that surround that town are just amazing. If you have a camera bring it with. Oh and who can forget the Safari inn, it’s one of a kind!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Truth is my mother Nancy Kinsey was the true bread winner in my house hold when I was a kid growing up. The reason I have the work ethic I do is because of her. So if I was going to give a shout out for the worker in me it would be because of her hands down!
