We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Sivinski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
When I was growing up, I was always drawn to creative arts. I played around with a lot of different things: pottery, dancing, drawing, whatever allowed me to express myself. My family also moved around quite a bit, and having that kind of outlet helped me explore who I am during all those changes. Photography, in particular, was always something I had a passion for because it incorporates a lot of art forms at once, and so when the time came to decide on what I wanted to do, that’s what I dedicated myself towards. I love being able to grow as an artist and find the beauty in objects and scenes that other people might easily pass by. And through photography, I can invite people into that creative world and encourage them to share the important facets of their lives as well.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I first started doing fairy-tale style shoots, people told me that it was unique and beautiful but that I wouldn’t be able to make a career out of it. They told me I’d need to go to NYC and that only high-fashion magazines would go for that sort of thing, not everyday people. But I didn’t listen to them and kept pushing forward because that’s where my passion lies, and I ended up proving them wrong. My clients love that aesthetic and enjoy that kind of creative vision, and that’s what sets my work apart. I bring a sense of wonder and storytelling to every shoot, and it creates a unique experience that the people I work with never forget.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our little town of Elkton is really growing! A new brewery opened up, and they have live music every week. A cute boutique called the Hen House is also a recent addition that would definitely be a stop on a fun friend weekend. And then, of course, there’s so many outdoor activities to take advantage of: kayaking or tubing down the Shenandoah River, hiking along the Appalachian Trail in the national park, the possibilities are really endless.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Stacy Sivinski I’d like to give a shout out to all the photographers who’ve inspired me and my husband, who continues to support me and encourages me to be the best I can be. I’d also like to acknowledge my friend, Julia, a fellow photographer whose always given me good advice about my business and is an all-around lovely person to have in my life.
