We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I started VeteranPCS as a way to serve the military community in a few different ways. One, make it simple for moving military or veterans to find a fellow veteran or military spouse real estate agent. The reliability and trust is really important in the military community and understanding the orders and PCS process and VA loans is crucial when military and veterans buy or sell a home. Two, I set it up to free to use and then part of the agent’s commission goes back to the military or veteran at closing. Moving is straining in a lot of ways, especially financially, this money back at closing really helps with their moving and closing costs and ranges from $200 to $4,000. Third, I made it free for the agents to be listed on the website, no other website does that and helps serve the veteran and military spouse businesses. Veteran and military spouse unemployment is drastically high, so VeteranPCS helps this problem by supporting businesses with a simple thing like moving. Lastly, we give a donation from each closing to military-focused charity to support our community throughout.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The word “Home” means something special to each one of us.
And for those that are serving, or have served in the military, its unique.
Home transforms. From where you were born or grew up, to where you’re planted in the moment. For just a few short years, you have a new town, new friends, new house, new job.
And we often leave home. For training, for deployments, for combat, and to fight for… home.
And although we’re proud to leave home, theres nothing we all look forward to more, than coming home.
So, when you’re ordered to move your home, it’s hard. Really hard.

VeteranPCS started off as a simple idea – support our military community by making it easy for military and veteran families to work with a fellow veteran or military spouse real estate agent to buy or sell a home. It’s designed to support the moving families by giving money back at closing to help with their moving costs and also support the veteran and military spouse businesses. In addition, we give back another 10% to support military-focused charities. It’s a win-win-win, designed to support our community from within. Our mission is simple: Military families helping military families move.

The journey has been far from easy. It’s been a lot of long days and late nights, fueled by hope that people will see what we see and believe in what we’re doing. I basically drained my savings starting the company and have never taken on loans or investment capital to grow it. This keeps us focused on one thing, serving military families, rather than ensuring profits for stakeholders. It’s been really tough at times, and basically every dollar gets reinvested in the company to keep making a bigger impact.

Step by step this company has grown in just 4 short years to cover all 50 states, feature over 350 veteran or military spouse agents and VA Loan experts, and has given back over $340,000 to moving military and veteran families.

What has kept me and the VeteranPCS team going is the consistent positive feedback. We hear the success stories of service members and veterans getting into homes they love, we hear how this has helped serve the veteran and military spouse businesses, and that energizes us to keep on keeping on.

I think the one thing I want people to understand is that the money back at closing is just the cherry on top. Our mission runs far deeper. Helping people develop that new sense of home, wherever they’re planted in that moment. In addition, veteran and military spouse unemployment or under-employment is a tragedy. We’ve made it free for the agents to be on the website so it helps to support their businesses. It cuts our profit margins down significantly but we’re fiercly committed to serving these businesses and ensuring military families are taken care of by agents and lenders they can trust. The reliability and level of trust of working with someone from the same walk-of-life makes a big impact during a stressful time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
What a great question! A tour through the mountains would be my first pick. I enjoy both the city life as well as the middle-of-nowhere, so a week-long tour would have to encompass a mixture. Hiking or skiing in Breckenridge and Vail, depending on the season, followed by some favorite restaurants like Alpenrose. A boat ride or paddle boarding on Lake Dillon would be on the list. A trip out to Ouray to experience some hot springs and more outdoor adventures. Lastly, one of my favorite places to camp and get away from the hustle and bustle is Buena Vista. They have some great remote camping spots in the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. Summertime would also have to include a summit of a 14er (or a few).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to send a huge shoutout to the entire VeteranPCS team. We are a small team of 7 veterans and military spouses that run the entire company and program: Stephanie Camfield, Harper Foley, Michelle Bowler, Beth Soldner, Stephanie Guree, and Jessica Brown. They have truly helped this dream come true by working tirelessly for our mission. Another big shoutout to my wife, Emily, and my family and friends who have supported me and encouraged me along the way. Its meant the absolute world to me to have this kind of support.
