We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Harding and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, what inspires you?
Most certainly the incredible people who have come into my life over the years. Between family, friends and colleagues, I often find myself feeling both blessed and proud to be in their embrace. Additionally, I’m constantly awed by the abundance of creative energy the musical and artistic communities exude. However, they aren’t simply creative minds. The vast majority are wholesome, insightful and loving people. They’re consistent reminders of how to treat others and work passionately.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m assuming you could already tell music exists at the center of my life and I enjoy an unusually profound love for most genres. From Zappa to E-40, Nile to Dua Lipa, I get down to all of it! Since my youth, I’ve been fascinated by video game soundtracks. As I grew older and expanded my musical horizons, an appreciation for all shades of electronic music developed. After songwriting and playing guitar in rock and metal bands for twenty years however, it was time to create a new outlet. Thus my solo project, Kaom, emerged and has been growing, if still somewhat behind the scenes. I feel like it’s unique in that the songs don’t adhere to any singular style and have a different approach to structure and vocals than most EDM. Most importantly, the message and meaning for each piece is an interpretation of some facet of the human experience. Centered around introspection and awareness, I hope that people can connect with my art on a deeper level if they so desire. My passion remains sharing music with everyone!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite new spot is Beacon, the dance bar in RiNo. The owners and staff are great and the aesthetic there is simply magical! Best not to drink on an empty stomach so we’d hit the Post or William Oliver’s in Lafayette for some comfort food. Since we’re in the neighborhood, might as well stop by Romero’s K9 Club and Taphouse to watch the pups frolic. Assuming there would be a familiar artist performing during their visit we’d definitely catch a concert. A couple of my recent favorite venues have been Mission Ballroom and the Oriental.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The impact the Colorado music community has had on my life is unlike any other singular entity. The heavy metal family between Fort Collins and Denver. The electronic music family between FoCO, Boulder and Denver, The inspiring artists and bands that have come through Dog House Music in Lafayette. All of them have welcomed me with open arms and enriched my own artistic path.
