We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Lane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We both suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder related to combat in Iraq, and have found the VA system to be lacking, not to mention slow. We wanted to help other Veterans suffering from PTSD through outdoor activities which has been key to healing our mental health. So we decided to start an offgrid homestead to host veterans, and offer guided hunting, fishing, hiking trips to the Colorado mountains.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are dedicated to writing with Disabled Veterans suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder through what we call Nature Therapy. We offer a free recreational area for Disabled Veterans to come camp, shoot, go on guided hunts, and fishing trips allowing them to connect with other Veterans, unwind and relax doing things outdoors helping them heal Mind, Body, Soul, Spirit. One of the most important things we have learned about PTSD is that Nature Heals, and we want to offer that healing experience to as many Veterans as we can.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our guided hunts next year will be one week long, and we will be guiding four Veterans on hunts in the San Isabel, and Rio Grande National Parks. During the summer we fish the Rio Grande, hike the Great Sand Dunes National Park, visit Zapata Falls, and look for places to get “lost” in the San Luis Valley. We mostly grill, and cook out with drinks outdoors under the stars. We truly love the outdoors, and spending as much time as possible outdoors, and as little as possible indoors. The San Luis Valley is filled with outdoors experiences for all ages, and the small mountain towns here are filled with history. It’s truly one of the best places to live in the world.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to thank all Active Duty service members, and Veterans for their sacrifices for our Country.
