Meet Jean Kowalski | Artist – Abstract Expressionism and Holistic Health & Wellness Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jean Kowalski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jean, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Creativity has been in my life since my early years. Drawing was my escape to nature; to explore the forests, the waters and all that live within. I dabbled with pencil and with pen & ink, creating drawings of the images that nature implanted into my heart. Over the years, the busy-ness of life set my art aside until that internal creative pulse would not allow me to push it aside any longer.
It was around 2000 when I began creating once again. This time I choose to bring color into my work and learned how to work with acrylic paints. Using a paint brush was much too intimidating so I started with fingers, sticks, feathers, whatever tools I could find. At this point though, I was 15 years into my holistic health & wellness business. With the tools used for the healing work, I found they were infused into my paintings as well. There began to be an aliveness or an energy in each piece. It was figures, animals, various images that people began to see. I found great inspiration when I took time to go back into the elements of nature. The flowers with their glorious colors, the splendor of the mountains, the magic and mystery of the waters continue to be my inspiration.
I have found that not just art, though the colors that create a piece of art are powerful healing elements. Each one of us needs a variety of colors in our lives. It’s important to find and incorporate some sort of art into your everyday happenings; work and home life. Certain colors will emanate peace and serenity. While other colors may emit that sense of joy and happiness. I find great joy in supporting others in bringing their life and well-being into balance with my art.
My art is an invitation to explore the expansion of your imagination.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve had the question asked of me many times, how did I start my business and was it easy. Starting a business is all about following your heart. I have moved around the country quite often though with each move a deeper knowingness that I am where I need to be, for the people and the earth. It’s not always easy to make transitions into unknown places. Though through my art and healing practice, I find my family.
I’m excited to put the last 2 years behind me and open a new door for my studio/gallery space, as well as a healing space for everyone. I see and feel more of the need for others to come together in community.
There is great joy in hearing from people that experience my art and share what they feel and see within the pieces. A painting is unspoken words. It is poetry in motion; every vision, every stroke, every splash of color & every drop of energy.
Here are a few reviews from friends and clients:
• Jean’s work comes straight from her soul. It clearly speaks to each person who has the opportunity to view her pieces. The intensity, vibrancy and emotional impact are undeniable and speaks to each individual in unique translations. Her work is ideal for anyone searching for beauty and meaning. ~Kirsten Texler
• What I love about Jean’s work is I can look at a piece several times and see something new and great each time. Each one has depth and a really fresh feel to it. Love it!!! ~Thomas Lower
• Six or 7 years ago, Jean posted a painting for sale on Facebook. It seemed to grab me. I went to look at it in Alma (Wisconsin). It spoke louder. It moved me. I bought it and it is a focal point in many of my therapy sessions. It’s name? TRANSFORMATION. Several of Jean’s Guardians grace my space too. In addition, my daughter commissioned a work from her for my birthday.I am honored to know, support and love Jean Kowalski. She and her art have added so much to my life. I always feel I come out ahead when I purchase her art. ~Ron Welsch
The lessons I have learned along the way is to let go of the worry, trust in the greater all and enjoy the journey.
I want the world to know and to feel the transformational energies that are within each painting I create.
I want to be one that brings and anchors the joy and peace among everyone.
I want people to journey into the world of COLOR!!
Creativity is a journey into the gap of known & unknown. I’ve been traveling this gap for many years, exploring the vast array of colors, techniques and materials that are offered. Here lies the place of exploring the mystery and the joy of life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being raised in the midwest, I’ve had the opportunity to experience life in many towns and cities across the country. Each experience has been a transformative pathway to my creative work. Now living on the front range of Colorado, in a small town called Palmer Lake, I would enjoy sharing my favorite coffee house, Serranos in Monument, for breakfast and a great cup of coffee. We would head out to some of the hiking spots around the area. One of my favorite areas is Old Colorado City! Great shopping and wonderful restaurants line W. Colorado Ave. A special treat would be seeing the Broadmoor Hotel, taking the tram to the top of Pikes Peak, exploring the little mountain towns of Green Mountain Falls, Woodland Park, Salida, Buena Vista and so many more. The entire area is rich with history, so never a dull moment to be had.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My son Jason Kowalski, whom was featured in Shoutout Colorado – February 2, 2021, is my support, mentor and critic when it comes to my painting! He is an outstanding artist that has a unique ability to bring the old back to life. Jason is carrying forward the art connection that we have in our ancestral family.
Other than my son, I’ve had numerous teachers and guides to show me the way through my holistic healing work and the growth of my art work.
