Meet Jeff Musgrave | Owner & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Musgrave and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeff, what is the most important factor behind your success?
In a simple one word answer I would say “Creativity”. We strive to create new designs and new ways of doing things with our medium. I have always been a leader and rarely follow or copy others. Our brand is built on being unique and one of a kind with every piece we create. A close second to creativity is our customer service, working closely with the client and/or interior designer to create that special piece. We walk we you step by step through the process, sharing mock up photos, and completion photos before we ship. the client gets a say in the process so that we are building exactly what they want. Word of mouth and repeat customers have been our strongest marketing successes.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As I said before we strive to be a leader in design and creativity. Every antler is unique and different, so ever thing we do is one of a kind. I love collaborating with other artist and incorporating their art work into what we do. Currently we are working with a 3D artist doing resign bronze sculptures and adding them them to chandeliers. Our North American Apex Tapestry is a large 6 ft diameter fixture made of Elk and various Deer antlers and boast 6 beautiful 3D sculptures of an elk, moose, mountain lion, mountain goat, big horn sheep, and a Bear. It is a real statement piece for a trophy room of the classic north american hunter. Another great piece we have done this year is our Puncak Jaya Oval Chandelier. We incorporated Indonesian Ram Skulls with some very unique hand carvings on the skulls. We also work with an Upholstery lady, a stain glass lady, a metal smith, and an epoxy wood table top guy. Bringing in other artist and incorporating their work with ours makes our finished product very unique and one of a kind. Because I was successful with my product, I am now able to bring others board when I see things that I believe with work in the bigger picture of design. I love helping get other creative artist get a start in showing of quality work, growing my own platform and giving others opportunity to grow theirs. Was it hard to get here? Yes! Were there challenges? yes! Not everything worked, not every design was embraced by the public. But over time, we found what works.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in the mountains at 8500 ft elevation on the backside of Pikes Peak. We have all the tourist things to do with in 30 minutes of our shop.
In a few weeks an old friend from high school is coming out and we are doing a 3 day tours of Colorado on our motorcycles. Its mostly about the ride and beautiful scenery. Independence pass, Hoosier pass, Berthoud Pass, etc…. Camping along the way and stopping at a couple different hot springs to recoup (Iron Mountain Springs and Hot Sulfur Springs). I hope to make a lunch stop at the Damn Brewery in Dillion along the journey and hopefully we explore a ‘few mom & pop hole in the wall’ restaurants I have not heard of yet.
Others that have visited me, we hike, camp, fish, etc. It is always a great time with family and friends in Colorado.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I guess I would start with thanking God for giving me courage, tenacity, and a few lucky breaks along the way. My wife for sticking with me, even when things were tough. My employees that carried my business without me for several months after my motorcycle accident and hospital stay, and continue to do great work for me today. These would be my main thank you’s to send out.
I learned most everything I know in the fire. I didn’t really have a mentor teaching me how to start a business. I learned from watching others make mistakes and trying not to make the same mistakes myself. A whole lot of trial and error. Followed up with a deep desire to make my customers happy.
