We had the good fortune of connecting with Jen Heieck and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jen, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The driver of my success is working hard to be authentically myself within my profession of mortgage lending. I believe that the journey is so much easier when you are being true to who you are, how you enjoy interacting with people and the types of activities you like doing. I feel so lucky to have my profession because it allows me to working with people to build their personal wealth through real estate – all things that I am passionate about.
I create relationships because I enjoy being part of a community. I started building my network when I first moved to Colorado in 2015, well before I knew I wanted to go into mortgage lending. I did it because I was a new mom and I wanted to learn from other moms. We didn’t have any family here and that can feel incredibly isolating, especially with an infant. I built my network by showing up at mom events – with or without my baby. I added everyone I met to Facebook so I could feel more connected to them. Once I entered the field of mortgage lending it made the transition easy because I already had a large group of people who knew and trusted me.
Real estate has always been a passion of mine. I am a real estate investor in addition to a Mortgage Lender. While I was briefly a Realtor in 2007, I find lending to be a much better fit for my personality. I enjoy the puzzle of figuring out the best loan products for my clients. I enjoy walking my clients through different scenarios and helping them envision long term payoffs of their investment.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think the thing that truly sets me apart as a mortgage lender is that I have passion for the field. I got my start in real estate investing in 2005 at the age of 26. I have since personally bought 8 homes and I currently own 5. I understand what it’s like to be starting out at a young age with a little bit of money and a dream of owning real estate. I know what it’s like the run the numbers to figure out if an investment property is worth the investment. I can empathize with my clients and walk through the ins and outs of the emotions in addition to the math.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love escape rooms, so I would start by planning a couple of those. My absolute favorite rooms in the area are at Rabbit Hole Recreation Services in Louisville. I would also add Epic in Denver and Themescape in Broomfield to the itinerary.
For food my favorite restaurants are Rioja in Denver, Teocalli in Lafayette and Piripi and 24 Carrot in Erie.
I also think a trip to Colorado wouldn’t be complete without seeing the mountains, so we’d head up to my place in Grand Lake for a few nights (it’s available for rent at www.LoveGrandLake.com). It’s a short walk to the lake and downtown. We would absolutely eat at Grand Rapids Restaurant and see a show at the Rocky Mountain Reparatory Theater. Plus a hike in the meadow past Adam’s Falls.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to attribute my success to MOD Moms (which stands for Moms of Denver). Shannon Knobel started the organization and it has been a fantastic place for me to meet other moms from all walks of life. Many of my close friends are people I met through MOD Moms years ago. www.modmoms.com
