We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Railey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Life should be full of risks. If we do not take risks we will never change, never grow, never succeed, and never fail. Failure is scary but failure is how we grow to become successful. Imagine life if we never took risks and were afraid of failure. We would have never learned to walk. Babies fail over and over until they have learned from each of their failures and finally take enough steps to make it across the room without falling. As adults we are so afraid of the fall we don’t attempt to stand. Risks take you places you would have never gone. For me I took a huge risk opening my practice right after graduating with my Doctor of Chiropractic degree. I graduated in December, received my license in January and opened my practice the very next day. Was it scary? Yes, Was I taking a risk having never owned my own business? Yes, Was it worth it? You better believe it. I have had so many failures in my business I don’t have enough fingers and toes to cover them all, but I did learn from each failure and I would have never made it past graduation without taking a huge risk. Could I have become an associate and worked under another doctor in their practice? Sure, but why would I work for someone else when I worked so hard to become a doctor? I did not want to be told what to do and how to treat my patients, that’s what the past 8 years of school was training me for. Risks are necessary if you want to grow. So I encourage anyone that wants to see change in their life to stand, prepare for failure and walk in the direction you choose to walk in.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Incline Chiropractic Colorado started as a question. What if I started my own business? This questions opened a gateway of possibilities for me and how I could better help people. I did not want to be told how or when to treat my patients I just wanted to help people to my best ability and in the best way I know how. I have taken that opportunity and created a practice where I see people getting better, where I see patients healing and that is what gets me out of bed in the morning. My why is not only seeing people getting better but hearing, “Dr. Railey, I no longer have shoulder pain and I was able to hold my grandbaby for the first time.”. Those moments make all the stress, the 8 years of school, the hard work and dedication worth it. Becoming a Chiropractor was not easy, nor was opening my practice but you push forward for the things you want in life. My niche is Pregnant mothers and infants. After hearing so many doctors tell women they will just have to deal with the pain until they deliver made me absolutely sick. Pregnancy is supposed to be this beautiful time in a woman’s life and most of the time…. it sucks. Growing babies is hard work for the body to go through and my goal is to make pregnancy beautiful again. After baby is born I offer my moms a free checkup on their new born because birth is not only traumatic for mother but also for baby. Imagine being upside down with your head pressing down against the ground. Now imagine being pulled by your head through a hole just big enough for your shoulders to fit through. Traumatic right? Babies by no means get “popped”. Their adjustments are no more than firm pressure on the vertebra, skull, pelvis or sacrum. Plus I love seeing the baby my mothers carried while being treated in my office.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a fun getaway in Colorado I always recommend going through the mountain towns and seeing the heart of Colorado. I would take a trip through Golden into Grand Lakes, Breckenridge, Vail and Aspen. It does not matter what time of the year it is these are the most amazing places to dine, hike and shop. My all time Favorite spot is Blue Mesa in Gunnison Colorado. This was a place my family traveled to every year when my brother and I were little, into our teens and even now as adults. Its the best place for fishing, boating and tubing in the summer time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize the love of my life, Ryan Railey. He encouraged me to shoot for the starts with unwavering devotion and support. Ryan left his business in Colorado to come to Kansas to support me while I was in grad school, he encouraged me to open my business and helped me through every step to make my dream a reality. He is an amazing man and a wonderful husband. Thank you for always being there for me.
Pelvic pain is a common condition Dr. Railey sees in her office for her pregnant mothers. Mom’s are seen from a few weeks pregnant to the day the are in labor!
