We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenny, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve been a professional artist for over a decade and when COVID hit it really made it difficult to find spaces to show art and sell the things I make. Another factor was that I began making a soap that was difficult to get at the time that had all of the things in it that we wanted. I posted one-day pics of what I was making and all of a sudden I began getting orders for soaps and wire wraps and other things. Once that happened friends of mine who own small businesses also put in wholesale orders. With that momentum, I used my artistic skills to design and start social media pages for my creations as well as a website for my artwork. I have sold items now from coast to coast and a few spots in between.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is truly a labor of love. I took almost all the art classes they had available at both the colleges I attended. It is my voice, my reflection of the world, and above all, self-reflection. I was blessed to be taught by some of the greatest artists in the area I live in, they taught me so much. After graduation I let art run away with me. It is an escape and a lesson in mindfulness all wrapped in one. I don’t know if it has been easy per se but it’s just something I do. The ways I was taught have allowed me to function enough in the art world to get my foot in the door most of the time. It all depends on the audience so I do try and be patient so I can find just the right viewers that can relate in some way or at least just enjoy what my artwork has to say in their own way. I want the world to know that I am a reconnecting Native American, SAHM, newly discovered neuro-divergent, magickal practitioner, and my art tells the story of my journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh my goodness I love this city so much. For natural areas, I really enjoy Red Rock Open Space, Garden of the Gods, Bear Creek, and Palmer Park. For tacos, you have to hit up Maco’s Tacos in front of Leechpit Records which is also fantastic! Manitou nearby is always a fun hang out with the arcade and cute shops. Mountain Metaphysical is where I do tarot readings and where I source most of my metaphysical supplies. To check out local art First Friday is always fun and if there are any local artists interested in showing work there are many participating venues to check out and most places switch out their art monthly so contact them! For drinks, my favorite spots are the Rabbit Hole with delicious food and drinks, and Coati which always has a great vibe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people that have encouraged me along my path between family, friends, coworkers, and sometimes even strangers, I am ever so grateful. I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my parents and my love Daniel Tamayo. My parents have been solid support the whole way through and I feel blessed by that fact. Daniel and I have been through a lot together but no matter what challenges we have faced or crazy ideas I have had he has always been supportive of everything I have done. With that kind of support I feel I can do anything.Thank you so much for everything.
