Meet Jeremy Squires | Singer/Songwriter, Writer, Musician, Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Squires and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeremy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued this career/life because it is what I do best. It is all I’ve known for the better part of my 42 years on this planet. I have a lot to say and being a musician gives me the platform to help people as well as help myself grow as a human being.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter. I’ve released 10 albums as well as countless other works. I am very excited about my upcoming album ‘Hymnal’ which will be out 10/14 via Blackbird Record Label. Honestly, it’s been a very long and hard road to get to where I am at currently. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs and I’ve had to learn how to navigate the waves of this career. I’ve learned quite a few lessons. First and most important is to surround yourself with a good team that believes in you and inspires you. I also do not depend on anyone and I am very DIY still to this day. If you want something then you have to work hard for it and earn it.
I’d like the world to be able to listen to my songs and create their own meanings from them and also relate. I am a strong mental health advocate and this reflects prominently in my music and it is my hope to help people through my music.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I’d take them to downtown New Bern, NC. There is so much beauty there and it’s right by the river so we could grab something to eat from any of the many places and go for a walk to union point. I’d show them my favorite cemeteries and photograph them. I’d also take them to the Beaufort waterfront and take in some of that beauty. We would take a ferry ride to the shackleford banks and see the wild horses and relax. I’d also take them to some of my favorite beaches in Morehead and Wilmington.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this to Manda Mosher. She’s the head of Blackbird Record Label and has helped me so much the past few years. She’s definitely a major part in my story.
