We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerry Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jerry, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Robin and I feel we’ are successful business partners for a number of reasons
We communicate on a frequent basis and meet in person, once a week.
We both bring our own strengths and weakness to the business along:
We discuss and come to an agreement on who does which tasks. We believe in cross training as we both know how to complete each other’s main duties.
We are successful as we are on the same page with what are our priorities are in running our businesses: We focus on working smarter, not harder. Keeping our mission statement front and center:
We don’t sweat the small stuff. When a substantial decision needs to be reached, we sit on it. We talk it out. We weigh the pros and cons. At times we seek the input of a few inner circle friends for their feedback. We remain calm, cool and collected and then make the decision: We are committed to always being honest and respectful to each other.
We generate a timetable each year. Month by month we see what tasks need to be completed, which keeps us on task and we try not to let things fall through the cracks.
We both truly enjoy what we do on a daily basis. It makes it feel like “non work”. We enjoy our interactions with our many artists and working with multiple venues, where our events are held.
We embrace change. We are not content with the status quo. We are constantly seeking feedback from our clients (artists) and shoppers. We enjoy trying new attics and ideas. Keeping communications open to our clients and shoppers build important relationships and loyalty.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Robin and I both had our own family businesses prior to becoming co-owners of Applewood Festivals. We met each other at a farmers market, as we were both selling our food items to shoppers: We instantly hit it off: 7 years later we became business partners.
Ironically, we were both food vendors at Applewood festivals prior to becoming owners. Having been participants in Applewood Festivals, gave us a great advantage and insight on how this business operated. We also knew many of the participants (artists) which made the transition of ownership, that much easier.
We were most fortunate to have the previous owners, as friends and they have continued to be our mentors and always willing to give us advice and guidance. All of that made our becoming the new owners, so much easier.
With Robin and I becoming the new owners, we were blessed to buy , what is considered the best holiday gift events in Colorado. We were determined to maintain and improve those high standards we purchased
We are incredibly proud of the events we own and host each year: We have the best artisans who participate and the most loyal shoppers who have been with Applewood Festivals for 45 years.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well. We actually have many friends and family visit us in Fort Collins Co. We are pours of our wonderful college town. Many reasons why it’s considered one of the top places to live, in the US
We would normally take guest to visit Horsetooth reservoir, which is a few miles west of: truly a beautiful setting with a shoreline of over six miles from north to south. A visit to the beautiful CsU campus and the oval area. Old Town is the highlight of any visits to Ft Collins. A area of five square blocks. Full of boutique shops, independent shops, restaurants, live music venues and Old Town square. A visit to Walrus Life cream is always part of the tour.
