Meet Jerry Ware

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerry Ware and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jerry, how does your business help the community?
I started Skylight Music Records in 2021 with the goal of creating a platform for talented artists who didn’t have access to large audiences. I saw that many independent musicians struggled to break through because they lacked the connections or resources to get their music heard. I wanted to change that by offering them opportunities through sync licensing, collaborations, and promotions, helping them gain exposure and build sustainable careers.
Our mission goes beyond music – we’re focused on empowering artists from diverse backgrounds and providing them with the tools to succeed. By doing this, Skylight Music Records contributes to the community by giving a voice to underrepresented musicians and ensuring their work reaches wider audiences. We are also committed to ethical practices, including fair splits and creative freedom, which further help artists grow and thrive.
Through these efforts, our impact extends to creating a more inclusive music industry and offering new opportunities for talented individuals who might otherwise be overlooked. It’s about changing lives, fostering creativity, and sharing those stories with the world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is deeply rooted in the passion I have for bringing talented voices to the forefront, voices that might not otherwise have the opportunity to be heard. What sets Skylight Music Records apart from others is that we focus on giving artists the platform they need, no matter where they are in their journey. The diversity in the music we produce, combined with a focus on independent artistry, is something I take great pride in.
I’m most proud of how far we’ve come since launching in 2021. We’ve built a label that prioritizes creativity and collaboration, and that’s what excites me the most — seeing artists flourish and watching their unique sound reach the world. The journey has not been easy, though. Starting out, I faced numerous challenges, from navigating the complexities of the music industry to securing opportunities for our artists. One of the biggest hurdles was building a brand in such a competitive space without the resources that bigger labels have. But every obstacle was an opportunity to grow, learn, and find creative solutions.
Overcoming these challenges involved persistence and adapting to change. I’ve learned that building relationships and maintaining trust with both artists and industry professionals is key to long-term success. Another important lesson is to always stay true to the core mission of providing a platform for underrepresented talent.
What I want the world to know about Skylight Music Records is that we are more than just a label. We’re a community. Our story is one of dedication, collaboration, and resilience, and I’m excited for the world to continue to see the amazing work that our artists are producing. Through Skylight, we are shaping the future of music by empowering the next generation of creators.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my team comes together, I love taking them to unique, immersive experiences that foster creativity and inspiration. Recently, we went to Meow Wolf in Denver, a mind-bending interactive art exhibit that really sparked everyone’s imagination. Before that, we visited the Denver Museum of Illusions, which offered another fun, team-bonding activity as we explored the quirky and surreal installations.
I’m always planning new things for us to do because I believe in making the team effort fun and dynamic. For example, I would take my best friend on a similar tour. We’d start the week with some of Denver’s iconic spots, hitting Union Station for a great breakfast and wandering around the city to get a feel for the local vibe.
For lunches, we might hit The Buckhorn Exchange, a historic restaurant, and Snooze, an A.M. Eatery for brunch. We’d definitely explore Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre for some outdoor beauty, and maybe even catch a concert. A trip to Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe would be perfect for soaking up local culture and street art.
To top it off, we’d visit some unique dining spots like Root Down and Linger for dinner. And we’d end the nights hanging out at Larimer Square for cocktails or Williams & Graham, a hidden speakeasy that feels like stepping back in time. For a chill vibe, we’d relax at Washington Park or visit City Park to unwind and recap the adventures.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my friend and mentor, Dave, who played an instrumental role in my journey. Dave was more than just a friend – he was a mentor who guided me through the intricacies of sound engineering and music production. His knowledge, patience, and encouragement helped me build Skylight Music Records from the ground up.
When I was just starting out, Dave took the time to teach me everything, from the technical aspects of sound mixing to the nuances of capturing the perfect tone in a studio. He wasn’t just teaching me skills – he was showing me how to take a dream and make it a reality. His passion for music and his ability to break down complex processes made all the difference in helping me grow as a producer and entrepreneur.
Sadly, Dave passed away, but his influence and legacy live on in Skylight Music Records. The label is a testament to his mentorship, and I strive to honor his memory in every project we undertake. Without his guidance, I wouldn’t have been able to create a platform that supports independent artists the way Skylight does today. Dave deserves a huge amount of credit for the success I’ve experienced and the opportunities I’m now able to give others.
