We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesse (J.R.) Perry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jesse (J.R.), what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After years of corporate leadership and executive roles, we decided to take everything we love and built a business out of it.

As entrepreneurs we have the philosophy to always be learning and striving to become something better each day..

SpeedEFX came into fruition when a couple of amazing minds (Steven Sills, Seth Tefertiller and J.R. Perry) came together and in February of 2018 it became a reality.

Our goal was to build a business that we could go to each day and be proud of the work we were doing. Our mindset was to work hard and the success would follow.

Each of us have a serious passion for cars and each of us played a unique role in the potential success of our adventure. Seth comes from a leadership background with a meticulous attention to detail within a hands-on environment. The other (J.R.) comes from several corporate structured creative and technological positions. J.R. Is responsible for the technical, creative and business management sides of the company.

We literally took our passions which were cars, technology and design and formed a company of it.

Neither Seth nor J.R. had a history in vehicle aesthetics but both were willing to learn the traits and do what needed to happen to make the company succeed. We both trained rigorously for months prior to the opening day to make sure we were confident in releasing our brand to the public. We obtained certifications, studied the competition, constructed the online presence and built out the facility of which would be known as SpeedEFX.

On February 15th, 2018 we opened our doors and the rest is history!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Nothing is ever easy! Everything in my life has been earned, starting with a young life as a blue collar worker spending 8 years in automotive shops. By the age of 24 I decided to put myself through college to follow my passion of technology and design. I graduated with honors at the age of 28 and started my career path over again in the creative / IT industry.

I quickly took to leadership positions as a creative director and held executive positions in IT. I’ve worked these industries now for 17 years and still learn something new each day!

I’ve learned a lot of what to do and what not to do by other people in executive positions along the way. This has allowed me to form a solid foundation to build a respectful company off of.

As a leader and owner of SpeedEFX I ask my employees to work hard and they will be given the respect and compensation they deserve. The sky is the limit and we have a great path ahead of us! I am thankful for all the great employees and the team we have built here at SpeedEFX!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We a very active in the car community and would include them in some awesome events planned for that week. We regularly participate in local racetracks, charity cruises, fundraisers and car shows.

If we do something outside of cars we might show them some amazing trails or outdoor activities in Colorado! A trip to Red Rocks perhaps or even go deeper into the mountains and visit Steamboat or even Telluride. The views are literally unmatched.

I am a father of three and do not frequent bars or a local night scene so I would probably host something at the house for everyone to enjoy..

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to give a shout-out to my wife Melanie Perry for her drive and support she has for me and all my crazy ideas. She is raising our three children while I work long hours at the shop. She is simply amazing.

Of course the rest of my family but most importantly my special needs boy Jace. Jace gives me the drive to be something better each day. Jace is only 6 years old and has been through more trauma then anyone I have known. He suffers from a terminal heart disease called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy or better known as HCM. We were told he would not make it past 8 months but continues to beat each obstacle in his young life. Jace is still G Tube fed and is mostly non-verbal. He also has been diagnosed with Noonan’s Syndrome. Jace had his heart stopped for 30 minutes a few years back due to his septum swelling in his heart. The amazing surgeons nurses and doctors at PSL in Denver saved his life and he continues to thrive today.

With that being said a big shout out to my family who gives me the pure desire to succeed to make a better life for them.

I’ve also had some great advisors along the way!
