We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesse McCann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jesse, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’m here to do interesting things until I die, and so I do what interests me. I’ve always loved the artist/creative world, and I really love experimenting with new techniques and some of the trial and error that’s involved that has lead to some pretty neat shots.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most proud of how far my entire process has evolved over the years. The back and forth with experimenting and failing and experimenting and failing and experimenting and finally making! No, it’s not easy. It never will be, but my worst day behind a camera is lightyears better than my best day in any field I’ve worked in previously.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Meeker and Rangely Colorado are kind of my main stomping grounds. I know plenty of good camping spots all along the White River, just South West of Meeker. From Ute Lodge, Marvine Ranch, Buford, Lake Avery. The scenery gets good outside of Rangely as well, to the North lies a face of cliffs that overlook the valley, to the South you have Carrot Man, and Douglas pass is a good sight as well. What I’m saying here, is that there’s a lot of wilderness for us to get lost and take pictures in.
As far as eating, Rangely is the base for my all time favorite food truck, El Agave. If you like Italian better, both Gio’s Family Dining in Rangely and Ma Famiglia in Meeker are absolutely ace. Everything else would be campfire cooking(this trip is in the summer or spring, or fall, right?).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom, for not only putting up with me, but supporting my art and myself more than anyone. My dad, for talking sense when I needed it.
My brothers, for suffering me as their older brother.
My cat, mostly just because he’s cool.
