We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Yoga completely changed my life and quite simply I wanted the world to know about it! Once I got deeper into my yoga journey I knew I wanted to teach it and share it with everyone who wanted to know! Growing up in Boulder County it was clear that yoga was not accessible to so many people that needed it. For many people that needed yoga, it was too expensive, too challenging, and too mysterious to reach them. I was on a mission to change this reality and touch the lives of everyone I could with this life changing practice!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I teach yoga to people of all ages and abilities. My oldest yogi is 101 years young and my youngest yogis are just 2 years old! I am most proud of the work that I do when I hear the successes in my students lives due to their practice. For example, I hear a lot of my elderly students talk about how their yoga practice helped them prevent a fall during a stumble. I feel equally as proud when the parents of my young students tell me their child used a breathing technique they learned in yoga during a tough situation to calm down.

The yoga business has not been easy. It has taken relentless persistence showing up and asking over and over again “can I teach yoga here?” Every time I have a moment of fear of being rejected or I get tired of getting out and showing up, I remember that it’s not about me! It’s about the collective; it’s about people, it’s about spreading peace, presence, and happiness.

The one thing I want the world to know about yoga is that EVERY BODY can do yoga. Yoga meets you where ever you are. All my regular weekly classes are offered person and on Zoom and most of them are free! So matter where you live or what your socioeconomic status is, YOU can do yoga!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting I would take them to our beautiful Colorado State Parks. I live near Barr Lake State Park and I often teach yoga there. Barr Lake is an oasis filled with wonderful birds, beautiful nature, and spectacular scenery.

We would also visit my local library, the Hudson Library to do some of their amazing programs and then get some yummy coffee at my favorite coffee shop, Wolf and Honey in Brighton.

Another must do activity would be to visit Coors Field for a Rockies game because the ballpark is one of my favorite places!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Along my journey of entrepreneurship I have had the help of many friends and community members that have given me opportunities to share my gifts but I can honestly say that I would not have had the success that I have experienced without the help of my Mom. Not only did my Mom encourage me to follow my dreams and take the necessary risks needed to move forward, but she also has been my “right hand woman” with all the nitty gritty work that it takes to run a small business!
