We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Lloyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up with an innate love for art, I always sought creative outlets. Drawing and painting became essential to my identity. Tattooing offered a unique opportunity to apply my skills in a new, permanent medium. Now, I’m privileged to create lasting art pieces on clients’ skin.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Upon entering the industry, I faced significant challenges, commencing my apprenticeship on the cusp of the COVID-19 pandemic. As one of the few women in the field at that time, perseverance was crucial. Despite obstacles, I persisted and grew.
Throughout my journey in the tattoo industry, I’ve encountered toxicity and abuse. Despite facing daunting challenges, I’ve persevered, driven by determination.
At times, circumstances led me to reevaluate my work environment, prompting strategic decisions to transition between shops. These moves have consistently yielded positive growth, refining my skills and work ethic.
My resilience has allowed me to thrive, solidifying my commitment to creating a safe and supportive space for clients.
Today, I’m proud to be a skilled fineline artist, specializing in spooky designs and Studio Ghibli-inspired art. My journey has taught me resilience and dedication.
In my practice, I prioritize creating a safe, inclusive environment for clients and strive to provide exceptional service. I welcome diverse perspectives and foster trust through open communication.
Experience and expertise have shaped my artistic voice, reflecting my passion for unique designs and commitment to excellence.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was in town, I live in Greeley, CO, we don’t have a lot here but we do have some fun stuff!
First off we would definitely chill at my house eating snacks and watching TikTok’s.
We would end up going to Stella’s Pinball Arcade and Bar downtown, they have great food and everything is video game themed.
We would also end up driving to Masonville to see my mother and possibly visit the Blue Stone on the way.
The chances of us going to the Kress Cinema to see a movie and have a few drinks is very high along with dinner at Stella’s again!
We would also more than likely visit The Oddity Shop and Moms Popcorn to grad a few pieces of memorabilia!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Grateful for the incredible people who’ve helped shape my artistic journey! Huge thanks to my parents for their unwavering support. Shoutout to Rio Tapia, Kat Aumiller, and Gage Doughty – exceptional artists and mentors who guided me through challenges and fueled my growth.
