We had the good fortune of connecting with Josiah Arment and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josiah, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Life is all about taking risks! Without taking any risks life stays the same with no movement. I found my career in movement. I found it in momentum. I think when we do things we never thought we could do before or things that are out of the “norm” we really start to become a new version of ourselves that can do things we didn’t think possible. It brings out underlying talents that laid dormant not knowing what we have until we took a risk. For me it was trying something I never did before – modeling. My dreams were to become a rockstar and an actor, I had never even considered modeling. It wasn’t until I was reached out to by multiple designers in both Denver and NYC that I decided to take a risk! Now it’s something I couldn’t imagine giving up and now I even co-own a billboard in NYC! Taking risks leads to unimaginable amazing things!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a model, actor, creative director and musician. I love to always try new things and keep inspiring others around me. I’ve directed multiple themed photoshoots and projects. I love to design and write. My future plans are to have a high fashion clothing line I can take to NYC and release multiple albums of my music soon! I think what sets me apart is my drive and determination and that can attract the dreams I want. Also the diversity of what I do. I’m not just into just streetwear or just high fashion for example, or only into Hip Hop and not rock. I’m into both and more so all of what I do is different, every project is not like the last. I like to have diversity in everything I do. Could do a family friendly commercial one week then the next a horror movie.
I got to where I’m at today through that same dedication and determination, never giving up and taking risks. It was most certainly not easy, in this industry it’s hard to stay inspired and motivated but to ones who are doing it, you’re already one step ahead of everyone else who were too scared to pursue their dreams. When things became too rough or overwhelming I took a break to remember why I’m doing this. To remember my purpose and inspirations. To do it not for the hustle but for the love of it. Then with that mindset I was able to bounce back.
I’ve learned that life is short and too fragile a thing to be lost in doing something we don’t love. Do things you do love, things that make you happy and inspire you. For me that’s multiple forms of art. Creative and performing arts. A little over a month ago I lost my very best friend who had the same dreams as me. We promised each other one day we’d make it, I want to fulfill that promise. I want the world to know that when we are doing things we actually love and keeping an interest towards inspirations we revive our inner child full of creativity and joy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to give friends and ones I care about the best time ever that they’ll always remember. I aim big with fun, for my best friend I’d plan a weekend of jet skiing on a lake or taking a trip to a beach while I have a live band playing and food vendors for everyone. If I’m gonna have a “best time ever” I plan to PARTY! If it’s a whole week long we’re going zip lining, taking a trip to another country, trying new foods there, white water rafting, maybe a helicopter tour! Then we could go explore nature at night and hang out in front of a campfire with smores! Live it up!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout to my 91 year old grandfather who never gave up on me or my dreams. Who always inspires me to keep going and keep moving forward! To try your best and never give up. My grandfather raised me and inspired me!
