We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Parzyck and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julia, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Since becoming my own boss and owning my own business my work and life balance is significantly better. I’m someone that burns out quite quickly and one of the reasons I wanted to own my own business was to be able to create my own schedule. I was tired of asking for time off, stressing about sick days, and being on someone else’s time. Now I’m able to prioritize my mental health and self-care and create a schedule that allows me to play and enjoy life. I truly believe that if you spend all your time working, you aren’t living. I love my job and career and working, but I also love spending time with my partner, my family, and my friends. If I don’t have time for that, then what’s the point of being your own boss?!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love the work I do. I work with all different types of women to help them find a healthy relationship with their bodies, food, and movement. I work with a range of body-image issues and eating disorders and provide collaborative care for my clients with their other mental health providers. I’m really passionate about the work I do because I suffered from an eating disorder for 10 years. I always thought I’d struggle with my body, my weight, and hate myself. Having someone work through my eating disorder saved me, and I want to be able to help women who struggled like me. I love the work I do because we all deserve to feel at home in our bodies and it’s constant life work to go against everything we’ve been told about our bodies and beauty. I’m really excited to see my brand and business grow. I’m launching a course in February with my friend Jayne, all about self-acceptance and we could not be more excited!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I love Denver for the parks and outdoor activities! I would definitely hit up my favorite coffee shop, Bardo! It’s the best, the oat milk vanilla latte or spicy oat milk chai tea latte are my favs. I’d then take those drinks and go for a walk in Wash Park! It’s like the Central Park of denver. It’s beautiful and where I met my boyfriend. I then would hit up just be kitchen for their breakfast burrito… it’s fabulous! Like SO good! I also love Northside Eatery (sadly closing for awhile due to covid) but they have the BEST Nashville hot chicken sandwich. I’d also hit up Linger for some rooftop drinks and their potstickers… they’re bomb! Then you have to hit up Red Rocks….one of the reasons I moved here! If you love music and the outdoors, it’s a must!!!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without Jayne. She is one of my best friends and CEO of Recovery Love and Care and who I work alongside for coaching. Without her training me and believing in me, I wouldn’t be able to be where I am. So grateful for her friendship and work relationship.
