We had the good fortune of connecting with Kassandra Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kassandra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind my business was to help break generational curses for my community and me. I grew up in the foster care system, my mother’s rights were terminated when I was 4 years old. I ended up moving through 52 different placements throughout Colorado. I even remember being on Wednesday’s child with Channel 4 and making pizza hoping to find a family. Unfortunately, I ended up staying in the foster care system until I was 17, and was emancipated from the foster care system. I remember being at Denver Social Services, they threw a huge celebration for all the foster children leaving the systems. I was asked to be the keynote speaker for the event. I was so nervous writing my speech it was my first time speaking publicly in front of people. I just remembered talking about understanding that the past does not define you. Make a difference in the world and your future will be blessed. To my surprise, after my speech, one of the speakers announce the winner of a scholarship and laptop. I won the scholarship and laptop I was so excited. I just remember smiling ear-to-ear with my foster mother. Little did I know that they took a picture of that moment and put it on the front cover of the Denver Post in June 2005. It was truly an honor to be celebrated and chosen to be the winner. I graduated as class valedictorian that year as well and also was a keynote speaker at the ceremony. in that speech, I talked a lot about purpose, dreams, and vision. I wanted everyone to be encouraged that day. We had victory over the barriers, storms, and cycles of trauma. The rest of our lives would be defined by the choices we make. Our mindset has to be that we can make it through anything and SOAR to higher heights. This was a new chapter for me I had to learn how to take care of myself. I ended up using my scholarship along with the WIA program and became a certified nurse assistant. I learned so much from the training I received from St Luke’s Ministries CNA training school. I landed my first job and it sparked my passion for healthcare. Furthermore, as time went on life changed throughout different seasons. The first few years were rough getting adjusted to living on my own. At age 21, I ended up volunteering on a council through Urban Peak. We ended up selecting the name for the new school Urban Peak learning, so other young adults could learn. By the end of that year, I was getting the hang of living on my own. When something devastating shook my world and shaped who I am today. I was stabbed in my head by my neighbor, someone that I was helping watching his little brother. After that, my life would never be the same. I end up hiding from the world. During that time I had to keep myself busy. So I focused on the one thing that I could control which is my learning. I enjoyed computers it was one of my favorite classes in high school. Most of the time because I was in Special Ed I wasn’t allowed to attend classes with regular students. I ended up being in special it because of being dyslexic and I had behavioral issues from being in the foster care system. I always knew that my learning would take me further in life than I could ever dream of. God was developing me in the dark in my isolation. As I rebuilt my life I learned so much about two particular areas that I was passionate about healthcare & computers. In 2008, I became homeless after going through an abusive relationship. I ended up at the Samaritan House Homeless shelter. To get back into housing, I had to take classes at the Stout Street Clinic. upon completing those classes on my last day I let everyone know that I had enrolled in college. As well as I let them know that I was going to be different and be smarter with my decisions and choices. I enrolled in the community college of Denver. I was so excited to attend college, however, because I had always been in special ed classes, I didn’t test at the college level. But I wouldn’t let that stop me. I work my way up from Junior High School classes until I was able to be at the college level. The first few years of college shape my learning forever. The professors were so amazing. Additionally, I was able to make so many strides in my learning with the access center on campus the persons with disabilities. As I work my way through college I was still homeless living at the Samaritan House. During that time I work as a bathroom attendant at the clubs in the downtown Larimer Square area. Likewise, I got two other jobs on campus. I would start my mornings working on campus as a parking attendant. In the afternoon I would work for 4 hours as a barista on campus. At night I would be in the clubs as a bathroom attendant. I finally saved up enough money to get an apartment. I continued working until I was able to find a higher-paying job. I learned how to drive, I was able to start doing more work in the nursing homes as a CNA. One day, I met a nurse who hired me to work in her Residential assisted living. I fell in love with serving others in their time of need. I continued my education. I declared my major in Healthcare Management with a minor in financial services. That day I knew I had found my purpose to serve others.I also became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. I took two classes at a time. I wanted to give myself time to become an administrator of an assisted living. After being a CNA for 16 years, I decided to open up a group home and became a host home provider for persons with disabilities. Liberty Healthcare Solutions was founded. Furthermore, I studied the Healthcare System of Colorado and worked in multiple areas.I built my Assisted Living business throughout College. I finally graduated in 2021 from Metro State University of Denver. It took me about 10 years to complete based on the number of classes I took on. However, I also developed a passion for Computers, website software, and business. During that 10 years, I dedicated myself to learning all of these areas. I now know over 250 different systems. Furthermore, in 2020 launched Rubie designs Graphics LLC. I wanted this company to be able to give my community Nationwide the ability to get their businesses online. But I didn’t want to just give them a beautiful design I wanted to give them the tools necessary to build a sustainable business.I developed a program called Empire University. This program was designed to help new and established business owners develop their websites. We have three packages purpose, vision, and dream. Each of these packages includes business consulting, and Software and pair with their website design. Our mission is to help all business owners to align their business operations with their websites. We create a specialized road map that connects the business with the correct software and business extensions to run the business. My vision is to empower my community to activate their purpose and break generational curses. I wanted Rubie Designs Graphics LLC, to be the solution for the pain points of the details needed to execute those visions.Rubie designs have now helped over 40 different industries’ business owners get online during the pandemic. Now they have the power to sustain their businesses and help build generational wealth for their families and communities nationwide. In summary, I like to end with a quote from my favorite author and mentor throughout college 13 times Bestselling author Dr. Eddie Connor, “We have to live on purpose, for a purpose with a purpose, We are gifted for Greatness!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would make an itinerary to head up to the mountains for horseback riding and white water rafting on the colorado river. As well as skiing at the winter park resort.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
