We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathryn Lott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kathryn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to own my own business, work for myself. I’ve worked in the corporate world, other interior designers, etc. While my experiences were all positive, I knew I wanted to work own my own, for me – setting the example for our kids that they can take care of themselves.

What should our readers know about your business?
Like other small businesses, I feel like I am always in the fight – in a good way! I am always working to get to the next level, keep moving foward and progressing in a business manner. Most recently, we moved from Beaufort, South Carolina to Colorado Springs, CO for my husband’s job. We didn’t take this decision lightly as I would be leaving all my clients, office and business. Luckily, it has worked out. Between traveling back and forth as well as establishing my business in Colorado, I am working to keep all pieces and parts going. I’ve always wanted to be a nationally recognized designer, this move has given me the kick in the pants to make that happen. From the marshes to the mountains, I’ve grown not only my business, but as a person, mother and designer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Welcome to the Urban Mountains, a.k.a. Colorado Springs! We love it as we have access to all the amenities as well as the mountains.

Itinerary:

Breakfast – a favorite for many years, Snooze!
Hiking at Garden of the Gods – a no brainer and a local favorite!
Lunch – Garden of the Gods Cafe (even our kids love it!)
Horseback Riding at Old Stage Riding Stables – a hike up the mountain with local guide to see the wonders of the west!
OR
Heading up the hill to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs to relax, soak and see the views of the Collegiate Peaks
Dinner at Shuga’s or the Rabbit Hole – either are amazing!

Staying the weekend in the Spring or Summer? Visit Black Tree Resort, only an hour outside of Colorado Springs and my kind of camping – https://blacktreeresort.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiAxvGfBhB-EiwAMPakqkR-0kYvS6ozD8IiIiOF27jPUPRTDLZDP22k8XZM7qGddCYLNWFsdRoC5iUQAvD_BwE

Perfect for families, couples, etc!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Being a business owner is not for the faint of heart. I am so appreciative for the flexibility and patience that my family has shown over the past five years. From keeping everyone moving forward to making sure everyone is fed and on time to school, my family has stepped up when I am no there or trying to get on my feet with my business. It is a process and I am so grateful they are on the roller coaster ride with me!
