Meet Katie Sevenants | Direct Sales Leader and Mentor, The Midlife Makeover

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Sevenants and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my Direct Sales business almost 20 years ago because I have been in sales in the cruise industry for 20 years but found myself after 9/11 unemployed and the company owed me back debt when they filed bankruptcy. I had 2 small children and one more on the way and knew I needed to make money but wasn’t looking forward to putting my kids back into daycare and missing all the “moments” of being home. I knew I had a lot of experience to share, I wanted to continue my relationships and adult conversations but still wanted a flexible schedule so I could choose to be more available to my family.
Direct Sales was presented to me and I quickly realized this could be a great option for my family. I was able to put my sales skills to work, I could run on my own schedule and it had the option to run when and where I wanted to work. I was able to work in the nooks and crannies of my life and implement great customer service along the way which has lead to loyal customers who have stayed with me 20 years! I love goal setting, mindset shifts and personal development, then being able to teach this with the team aspect and knowing that these subtle changes are impacting how others are growing and changing their family options too, gives me so much joy!
There were a lot of challenges in the early years because so many people had a bad experience with mlm or direct sales businesses but as more and more people are looking outside and beyond what they have been taught (to go out and get a 9-5 job) and having success, everyday people living a life they’ve dreamed of, then you know you are on the right track.
I continue to get inspired when I see how we are changing the way people think about their career options. This type of business can be run in and around someone’s life, it can be a hobby to just support their own habits with exceptional products or it can be a full-time career option that lets someone choose how to raise their family, have better relationships with those they love and choose who they work with.
My 3 daughters share their thoughts about growing up in this business lifestyle and rather than just watching their mom go off to work, they saw me working right in front of them, they helped in our “family business” and they have learned the values because they have seen me model them. I was an active part in their life coaching, volunteering and the most valuable was the small moments of time we could connect: driving to dance, soccer, basketball – those small moments add up and become the big things in life.
I will continue to share my passion with others – it’s become so much more than a way to make some money with a flexible schedule. I have developed a solid relationship with my family, met amazing friends from around the world and grown and developed skills I never could have imagined before.

What should our readers know about your business?
Direct Sales has become more of a career option now. I enjoy opening the possibilities for others to see an alternative in how they earn money while still being an active participant in their family. Creating memories that will last a lifetime rather than regretting the time they missed by being away in a job.
It’s not for everyone, but for those who want to grow and develop their personal skills, learn new things and serve others, it’s a great option. I hope more will treat this career path as a profession rather than a hobby. It really offers more choices and a great, flexible income. I’ve learned so much along the way and enjoy sharing what I’ve learned with others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Colorado Springs. I moved here 5 years ago from Seattle and fell in love with the sun and the mountains. I would have always thought of myself as a water girl but I definitely have found a calling in the mountains!
I love walking around Garden of the Gods, Hiking all over these gorgeous mountains. Have you ever walked around Painted Mines? That is really cool! I love Steamboat Springs in the summer for hiking, the hot springs and the cute town with great restaurants. I enjoy Grand Lake too – again for the cute town, hiking and of course the lake!
Denver: Meow wolf – crazy and fun, Mici Pizza – my newest obsession, Boulder – so cute, The botanical garden, City o City for fun and unique dining. I love to find unusual and unique places to explore!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have had so many mentors and wisdom from others before me from inspiring speakers, leaders, books and educational groups. For mindset: the late Bob Proctor to help me see and think bigger, Book: Think and Grow Rich, Joni Rogers Kante for her vision and guidance and community. And to all the successful direct sellers and coaches who’s goal is to help change the perception and process in this profession.
