We had the good fortune of connecting with Katrina (Trina) Obee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katrina (Trina), where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am originally from California but I moved here very young and spent my life growing up in Longmont, CO and the surrounding towns. I didn’t always have the best life, from an alcoholic mother, absent father in my youth and a poor household income it wasn’t easy. I got pregnant with my first child when I was young, 18. He changed my world From that moment forward I knew I didn’t want to be my mother or give him any instability. I went through hardships and hard headed moments that left me clawing up this never ending hill. For a long time I always took the hard route which left me 10 steps further behind then where I wanted to be. I made the decision to push myself to the fullest and now I successfully work full time for an amazing communications company while finishing out my bachelors degree in business management with an emphasis in small business and entrepreneurship. I hope to some day have my hand in many business ventures. Currently I also hold a part time job through my social media and engage in various social events to network with any and everyone. As the saying goes, “It’s not always what you know but who you know.” Today I am a strong and powerful energy that looks to help and grow anyone I come in contact with. I often help in friends small business ventures and with promotion and marketing via social media. As a child I would have never imagined being such a light source for so many people or that I would be referred for an opportunity like this. I always knew I wanted to do better then those before me and leave a legacy and empire my children could be proud of. I am fast on my way to accomplishing that and providing the stability I was denied as a child. I am proud of where I have been as we all know the most beautiful things come from the most friction and pressure. I have been through the mud and back and it has only made me more resilient and more unsatisfied with staying stagnant. I am shooting for the stars and I don’t think I will ever want to come down.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I often tell my friends that when my name is mentioned in a question of “What does Trina do?” and the automatic answer be “EVERYTHING.” How did I get here? I’m sure I haven’t even arrived at my destination but one thing I do know it has been one heck of a ride. Professionally I gained a lot of my sales and customer service from the jobs that I have had over the years. I have worked in everything under the sun. I have been in call centers, tech support for IBM, lead line cooks for busy brewery’s in Boulder…I have even been at a dry cleaners. I went to school for cosmetology so lets add that to the list too! Overcoming challenges is my specialty. There is not a person in this world that will leave me satisfied with the answer “No, you can’t.” I want the world to know that I came, I saw and I conquered. The best lessons that I have learned would be 1. Knowledge is power. If you don’t know something it is nothing in this day and age to figure it out. I have self taught so many things because of the desire to have the know how. 2. A chicken ain’t nothing but a bird. I am not sure what the meaning of this is entirely but I use it to submerge my fears. That can be from being the first to shake hands and introduce myself to someone I need to know or jumping in ice cold lakes for the good of a charity. Do not let fear of the unknown drive you. Take the big leap, buy the dress and ALWAYS eat the cake.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many places to go. With a week long trip we definitely have to go to Red Rocks, hopefully for a show as the acoustics are to die for but even if it is just a hike the views are to die for. With hiking on the brain we have to visit Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder and Garden of the Gods to get in touch with nature. I cook a lot to save money on leisurely expenses but one thing I can always make excuses for money well spent would be Las Palmetas on 11th and Francis in Longmont. They hands down have some of the best breakfast burritos ever. Another popular spot you may catch me is the Roadhouse Depot in Boulder. They have some amazing burgers and these Brussels app which has sweet sesame sauce with goat cheese, they are fried and finger licking good. For a fun nightlife we would go downtown Denver, I love the different atmospheres there. You can walk into any bar or club and there different music and a different crowd.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My children by far is where I owe the majority of my success. If I wouldn’t have had them there is no guarantee that a hot enough fire would have been lit for me to get through the trenches that I did. They give me the drive on the days I don’t wanna get out of bed. They empower me to succeed with their normal childhood and regular wants. When I was a kid I didn’t have luxuries that they do because my ma didn’t care. Another thing that should be dedicated is everyone who ever told me I wouldn’t make it…and there were a lot. For every negative remark or trip into dirt I got back up stronger and more steadfast in my goals. I owe it to the ‘haters’ as they fulled the part of me that wanted to give up and didn’t believe in myself. If not for them I would have never grown as a person to see my true path and how amazing I could really be.
