We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelley Millar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelley, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Being a parent and a business owner can be hard but I believe the greatest impact I’ve had on my children is showing them to be invested and passionate about what you spend your time on. I’ve always told them and showed them that whatever they choose to do with their lives, they must love it. They may not get rich in money but they will live very rich lives.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Events by KelleyNCo is an event planning, management, strategy & consulting firm with a focus on events without emotion. Meaning we don’t plan weddings or social events. Our specialty is conferences, workshops and retreats. We bring diverse groups of people together to learn, grow and thrive. I believe what sets us apart from many other planners is my decades of experience in the hospitality industry. I literaly grew up in hotels because both my parents were hotel General Managers and I learned customer service from a very young age. It’s important for our clients to have an incredible experience and an event that exceeds the goals and expectations of the client and the attendees. If a client asks for something off the wall or unusual, I will do everything in my power to make it happen. I’m not one to say no just because something may be challenging or hard. I know the difference between stupid and challenging.

I am currently very excited about launching Pikes Peak Event Collaborative in Colorado Springs, CO. It’s a place for all event professionals in the Pikes Peak region to come together to learn, grow and thrive! It’s a place for planners, caterers, photographers, vendors, venues, lodging, audio visual, suppliers and anyone else that plays any role in an event to meet, get vulnerable and we have your back. It’s launching in March 2022. It is also the place for everyone in the Pikes Peak Region to come if you are looking for any type of event professional. We have a code of ethics each member has to agree to while participating in the collaborative. You can have a sense of comfort in hiring a collaborative member because you will be getting a true professional.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There is so much to do in our community and I love the outdoors. We would not miss out on a hike on the gorgeous and soul regenerating Lower Columbine Trail in North Cheyenne Canon Park. I am so at peace while on that trail.

One cannot miss an evening at COATI on S. Tejon Street downtown. COATI has such a fun vibe and always has something entertaining going on from music to Nerd Night to drag shows to brunch. You cannot miss going there for a beer or some interesting and assorted foods.

We would most definitely spend one Happy Hour at Shame & Regret. Who wouldn’t go to a bar with a name like that! It’s a scotch & whisky bar downtown in an alley that is not scary to wander into.

If I’m feeling really energetic and strong, I would take my friend to the back of Pikes Peak through Divide and hike the Crags……. well until I can’t breathe anymore. It’s a gorgeous hike but it’s rough on this chubby girl’s lungs and thighs. Just take it slow and breathe. If I can do it, you can do it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to all the amazing business women that have held space for me in my business journey. In the beginning it was hard because I am not a salesperson at all. I am a very straightforward and direct person and a great salesperson is a storyteller, an entertainer. I appreciate those women that saw my struggle and mentored me while growing my circle of contacts. Learning from others that had been where I was made a huge difference because I didn’t have to reinvent the wheel. I just had to listen and learn. It’s now my turn to share my knowledge and teach those coming up in business.
