We had the good fortune of connecting with Kellie Alkayam and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kellie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Growing up in the jewelry business with my parents, I watched two very different approaches to risk play out in real time. My father was a natural risk-taker, while my mother was more cautious. I definitely inherited my dad’s perspective. He used to say that playing it safe never made anyone exceptional, and that always stuck with me.
Over the years, I’ve been told many times that something wasn’t possible or advisable because it was too risky…and honestly? More often than not, that alone made me want to go for it! Every time I’ve taken the chance, it has paid off.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
First of all, I absolutely love what I do! I think what sets me apart is the fact that I am a local, female-owned artisan who thrives in creating one-of-a-kind custom pieces. I frequently travel around the US and Internationally to find the best stones for my clients.
Clients will sometimes come in having previous difficulties in finding a piece that speaks to them, and having 17 years in the jewelry business, I have honed my expertise in asking the right questions to help clients create a piece they will love forever.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love going around and finding new places to eat, especially local mom & pop ethnic restaurants, as well as locally owned coffee shops. Another fun thing is finding tucked away parks where I can walk my dogs! I love that Denver is such a dog-friendly city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shoutout my amazing assistant, Hiley. After joining me last October, she’s been an immense help in keeping things organized and on top of client communication and job processes. I literally feel the stress lifted off of my shoulders! She’s also open to learning the trade and is excelling in participating in the design process.
