We had the good fortune of connecting with Kennedy Shriver and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kennedy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In June 2023, I completed a two-year role as Director of Creative Services in the Athletic Department of a Division II university—my hometown alma mater, where I had also competed in volleyball during my undergraduate studies. While this position marked the beginning of my professional career, remaining tied to my hometown left me feeling more confined than fulfilled.

When the Athletic Department offered to renew my contract, I chose instead to take a leap and explore new opportunities outside my comfort zone, aiming for a fresh path within the broader world of sports marketing. After four challenging months of job searching, I accepted a position with USA Artistic Swimming, becoming part of the Olympic Movement.

In just a year with the organization, I traveled internationally five times and domestically 15 times. As Communications Manager, I proudly supported the USA Artistic Swimming team in securing their first medal in two decades at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

This transformative journey wouldn’t have been possible had I not embraced the uncertainty of stepping away from the familiar. A little over a year ago, I could have stayed exactly where I was, but instead, I pursued happiness and growth, determined to challenge myself both personally and professionally.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always found myself in positions where I’ve had to wear multiple hats. In the sports industry, there’s rarely enough time or budget to focus on just one specialty. You’re responsible for a variety of tasks, each needing to be checked off the list.

Among all the skills I’ve honed, videography and video editing have always been my favorite. My passion for it started in high school when I got a GoPro just for fun. I’d bring it along to the lake, bowling alleys, or arcades whenever my friends and I went on adventures. Afterward, I’d put together videos capturing the memories. Before I knew it, people started noticing my work and asking me to film weddings, surprise parties, proms, and engagements—that’s how it all began.

I love creating keepsakes that people can cherish for the rest of their lives. There’s a unique beauty in capturing special moments and smiles.

Becoming a content creator and videographer in today’s world is no easy task. It’s one of the most competitive fields, where you’re always expected to learn new editing techniques and invest in the right equipment—something I couldn’t afford in the beginning. In fact, I shot my first wedding with just a GoPro.

But if it’s something you’re passionate about, you have to keep evolving. Rather than viewing other creators as competition, see them as inspiration. Ask questions, try new approaches, and pour your heart and creativity into the stories aspire to tell through your videos.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh goodness! Colorado Springs is filled with many different and beautiful adventures it is hard to choose an itinerary for just one day.

I would love to start off the day with a physical activity. Whether that be hiking, or finding a workout class to drop into early in the morning. Then, have breakfast in downtown Colorado Springs at one of my many favorite locations such as Urban Egg, Toastique, or Urban Steam.

Then (assuming its summer) I would take them to the Garden of the Gods Resort to the adult pool overlooking the rocks in the sunny but tolerable 80-90 degree weather.

After a couple of cocktails and a shared snack by the pool, I would finish off the night at my favorite restaurant 503W for fantastic food and a great atmosphere.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are countless incredible mentors who have guided me to where I am today, both professionally and personally. They’ve not only helped shape my career path but also strengthened my resume, skills, and confidence along the way.

My parents, Kevin & Brenda Shriver – for always being there for me and pushing me to expect excellence from myself and my abilities daily and showering me with unconditional love and support.

Colorado State University Pueblo – specifically Austin Albers and Athletic Director Dr. Paul Plinske for helping me gain valuable experience to help me kickstart my career.

Antwon Burton (former boss & trainer) – for teaching me to have a confident and powerful mindset from a very young age.

USA Artistic Swimming, CEO Adam Andrasko & former Comms Manager Alyssa Jacobs – for trusting me with this position that has given me the best experience of my life and the constant support through the learning curve of joining a new and unique sport.
