We had the good fortune of connecting with Kerry Condon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kerry, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Perseverance and grit. In the past six years we have had amazing highs and lows that have taught us many things, but our perseverance and grit, which come from our passion, dedication and commitment to what we invest our time and resources in have been instrumental to the success we have seen at The District.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The District opened in the summer of 2014 — just blocks away from childhood stomping grounds. Nestled in the heart of one of Denver’s oldest neighborhoods, the restaurant combines an eclectic culinary edge while embracing the historic districts surrounding it. The District encompasses the hard work and play of the Park Avenue-Humboldt Street District, the thriving nostalgia of the Wyman District, and the romantic ambiance of the City Park District. In 2018, I bought my partner own and took over the business solo, revamping the menu by building on the popular marketplace and food hall concepts of the day. The District partnered with Denver’s iconic Little Man Ice Cream and introduced the Big Truck Ice Cream concept. The Big Truck Ice Cream exclusively scoops Little Man Ice Cream flavors daily. A passion of mine, I also brought in the Sauced Smokehouse concept, partnering with local barbeque masters to perfect altitude-adjusted BBQ in Denver’s high, dry climate. Sauced Smokehouse is a staple on the dine-in, to-go, and catering menus. The melt-in-your-mouth slow-cooked BBQ is served naked with six sauces made from scratch for guests to choose for their BBQ plate. The District made a name for itself as a popular brunch destination. It’s been voted Denver’s best bloody mary and bottomless mimosa bar. In response to guest requests in 2019, The District started serving brunch seven days a week until 3 pm. The District enjoys being a neighborhood spot for locals and out-of-town guests to experience a fun, comfortable atmosphere. We pride ourselves on a great selection of craft beer, handmade cocktails and wine, as well as a menu that offers a little something for everyone. During the coronavirus pandemic, The District continues to honor our mission to provide our guests with a memorable experience with quality food and drinks in a welcoming, safe, and fun atmosphere! During the city and state stay-at-home order, we remained safely open, offering to-go, curbside, and delivery. We are now serving guests six feet apart on our patio, dining room, and bar. We ask for the support of our neighborhood and community, knowing that now, more than ever, small businesses need your local support to all get through this together. Over the restaurant’s six-year reign, we are proud to continue adding to the history of Seventeenth Avenue. We look forward to welcoming guests in the weeks and months ahead and, as always, aiming to satisfy customer’s cravings by combining the perfection of flavors, safety, and ambiance.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Denver and the surrounding area is full of fantastic spots to check out. Our itinerary would include: * We’d start and end at The District (duh ;)) * Some dirt bike riding outside of Colorado Springs * Skiing, golfing or hiking in Vail * The hot springs and the historic downtown in Glennwood Springs * A wine tour of the Palisades * A trip to Hanging Lake * The Colorado Railroad museum and downtown Morrison * Boulder and the hiking the flat irons followed by Pearl Street Mall * Chihuahua Mexican restaurant on Federal * Bar hopping downtown or off Broadway

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people and circumstances that have lead to success, but I would like to give a shoutout to my partner in life and business – she has helped me stay sane in crazy times, lifted me up when I have been down and is by my side to celebrate and enjoy our success. She balances me and shows up 100% on my team.
